Saffron Bryant was born on the 17th December 1990 in a small town in North Queensland, Australia. She has been interested in fantasy and science fiction from a very young age, writing her first story at the age of seven. She has always been fascinated by fantasy stories and has a passion for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
After an unpleasant encounter with a brain tumour, Saffron turned to writing as a creative outlet and has since published more than fifteen books. Saffron currently lives in Sydney with her partner Michael Lee where she is completing a PhD in chemistry.

I've enjoyed this author's other works as light entertaining reading, but this one was a tired remix and rehash of a polemic against a generic, undefined "church" with characters that never rise above the two dimensional. The same with those of government agencies. Lots of emotional thoughts and actions without much substance. The novella is half cooked, requiring further development throughout while shedding the unengaging cliche of factions.

Follow a young Archeology PhD and her graduate student on an adventure of a lifetime as they search for clues, run from the law and the church in search of answers that just may be more than bargained for.

This is another brilliant story by a favored indie writer. The storyline is fast paced and well written. Her characters are full of life, curiosity and human frailties. I love how Bryant melds science and storytelling into both a thought provoking and engaging piece of work. It is well worth both the money and time spent in reading The Descendant.

I don’t know if she intends to write more about the main character as she comes to live with her findings, but I myself rather hoping she does.

This will be a hard book to review without giving away the surprising and very satisfying ending. I'll just say you'll find this all builds towards a logical conclusion.
I'm really struggling to avoid revealing the concepts being explored but I can say this concept, in the real world, are gaining ever more acceptance by accepted authorities in the field. There are too many legitimate questions that lead to the answer found by the two young archeologists who are the main characters in this book.
The author doesn't give any clear indication if this is the start of a new series. If she's waiting to see if her reader's are interested in this, count me among those who would like to share more similar experiences.
