How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

It makes for dull and flat pictures
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2017Verified Purchase
The book comes under the heading, Big Bright and Early Board Books; well, I have to say that there is nothing big and bright about this book. Okay, the size of the book isn't an issue, but the blandness of the pictures is. Predominantly, the colour of the illustrations is a pale coffee colour with a little bit of yellow and the tiniest bit of red. It's as if the colour 'cartridge' is running out of ink and you're left with the last colour and a little bit of two others. It makes for dull and flat pictures. No wonder the cow in one of the illustrations looks so depressed; it's eating a light brown grass! This card book is designed for very young children; they usually like bright colours, which is what I expected this book to have. I bought it as a gift for a toddler and also bought The Very Hungry Caterpillar. What a contrast: bright vibrant colours. I shall keep the latter and return the former.

Lovely format, although abridged
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2020Verified Purchase
Lovely size and format, ideal for reading to toddlers. I was however surprised that this version of the book is abridged, I had just thought it would be in the board book format. Having said that it is just the right length to keep my almost two year old engaged right until the end, whereas I honk he might get a little distracted with the longer version. If he still enjoys this when he has started reading by himself, I'll get the full version!

Classic children’s book about a lost bird looking for his mother. I remember loving as a child!

A lovely story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2013Verified Purchase
I first bought this book 30+ years ago for my son and whilst looking for books for one of my grandchildren I was amazed to see it is still available. Whilst mum is away the baby bird leaves to nest to look for her and comes across many things on his journey, each time asking "Are you my mother" until finally he does find his mum. It is an engaging story which young children (and mums) love

We first read the book during my son's remedial tuition classes and since it's easy to read and understand and the pictures are nice, we bought the book and are quite happy.
