The rugs are soft and comfortable but they fall apart in the wash. I've followed directions - cold water, no bleach, gentle detergent, tumble dry - but the washer and dryer are filled with fluff and little gray strips of something after every wash. The rugs are getting thinner and thinner, and it's a chore to clean out the machines after every washing.
Update: After the third washing, the "soft memory foam" in the middle layer is completely gone. Something caused it to disintegrate and turn to powder.
I contacted the maker of the detergent and received a detailed list of ingredients from them. It seems likely that something besides bleach and fabric softener dissolves the foam. Smiry, however, would not address this and told me to "prevent slow washing" and recommended that the mats be washed separately "which will more effectively prevent the floor mats from cracking". There was no cracking.
I'm baffled by the apparent need to treat these rugs like they are fine Parisian lingerie. They're toilet rugs! They get pretty filthy and need some serious cleaning. Mine are now shapeless and have become quite slippery, so I guess I need to find something better made that will withstand washing.
