I used to work for Columbia Sportswear so when purchasing this jacket style I knew that I needed to size down. I’m a petite size. I’m 5’2, 34D, size 4 in jeans & dresses. I ordered an Xs and it is perfect. It fits but still has a little looseness to not look too fitted. If you want to wear multiple layers under this or even a fleece coat, I would not size down because as is it doesn’t have the extra room to accommodate. I could wear a very thin athletic zip up jacket and a long sleeve tee comfortably under this jacket as is right now. If you are average height and built then I would go with your normal size, but if you are petite- size down. This style is not built with petites in mind and the sleeves and length are long and unflattering if you size too big.
I bought this jacket first in an XL because I wasn't sure how it would fit, and I wanted to be able to wear layers on it. The XL was HUGE on me. I normally wear a size 10 or 12 in dresses, but I don't like my clothes being tight. Or to swim in my clothes either! So the XL went back to Amazon. I ordered a Large, and it's still a little too large, but I needed it for a hiking trip, so I didn't return it again.
It keeps the rain off of me really well, and the color is very noticeable in the woods. I wore this during a midnight kayaking trip in the rain, and I stayed perfectly dry underneath. I also like being able to pack it into the pocket and throw it in my bag all balled up, rather than carry it or folding it. Super convenient for travel!
If I ordered again, I'd probably buy a Medium, just so it wouldn't be SO BIG, but the Large works.
I absolutely love this! I ordered a Large. It’s so cute/flattering and comfortable. I have a long torso so it’s very hard for me to find a jacket that’s flattering. It is thin so if you are expecting some sort of warmth this is not the coat for you. It is helpful in like wind and rain. The only downside and issue I have had is the ability to tighten the bottom do the coat. I don’t like when something is just straight and dull. The cord did snap on me after about 6 months. I would order another and attempt to be a bit less tight with it.
Purchased this jacket be a top layer on a trip to Iceland during their warmer season. I wanted something light to travel with that would protect against wind and rain. It’s served it’s purpose well. Rain and mud run right off of it, sleeves have the option to Velcro for a closer fit to keep out moisture. I found it a bit challenging to make it “packable” in the pocket, but it compresses easily into luggage without that. The mesh lining prevents the coat from adhering to you if you’re bare-armed under it. My one complaint is that the hood doesn’t come far enough past my head to protect my face, so I wore a cap under it. This won’t add much warmth, but it does cut the wind chill and functions as an outer shell. I foresee using this quite often for wet summers as well. I typically purchase women’s tops in medium unless they’re known to run big. I bought a medium, and if allows me ample room to put multiple layers under.
I bought this jacket because I needed a rain jacket that I could wear over multiple layers. I was going to Scotland and Ireland in mid-march and knew that I would be needing something for the rain. As far as keeping water out, this jacket does the job. It also did fairly well against the biting wind that sweeps through Edinburgh as long as I layered. I was usually wearing a scarf, a sweater (or two), and a couple of shirts underneath and I always felt like I had enough room. Please keep in mind that this jacket is NOT well-insulated, so I would not recommend it for someone who wants to use it daily in the winter. I bought it because it packs well and was perfect for travel. Overall, it's a good jacket. It's not the warmest jacket, so make sure you are wearing a lot of layers or are wearing it for a warmer rain.
Great rain jacket. Very lightweight but the mesh lining helps add a little bit more so you aren’t just wearing a paper thin shell. I ordered a small— I’m 5’6” and 145lbs. I am usually between a small and a medium but I decided to try the small and I’m glad I did. The small fits me perfectly. Not tight but also still a flattering shape. The sleeve length was also perfect and I’m someone who sometimes struggles to find long enough sleeves. I tried it on with just a T-shirt and it fit perfectly. I then put on a lightweight hoodie underneath it and that also fit perfectly. The only reason I give it only 4 stars is because it is LOUD! Sounds very swishy swishy swishy!!! I’m hoping the “swish swish” lessens after I wash it?
Rolls up small into little backpack without wrinkling yet kept me dry and warm in heavy rains in the aftermath of the rains from hurricane Iota that caused a tropical depression in Costa Rica after it landed in Nicaragua. Impressive I thought! The pockets are good for a cell phone and more and zip up. There is a hood and Velcro tabs on the sleeve cuffs. It has a netted lining. It washed up nicely and hung to dry quickly. I’m 5-2, 140, 36B and purchased a M, and it was a bit snug with a shirt and light jacket underneath. Fit normally with just a light shirt.
