This jacket does exactly what it says it will do…..I guess I just expected it to cover my behind and it stopped quite short. However, what was covered stayed completely dry as I stepped out into the rain today. I just didn’t like that my behind and legs were soaking wet. The hood did keep my hair and glasses dry, but I could not figure out the weird drawstring contraption it has. It looked kinda messed up, to be honest. I liked that the sleeves were adjustable. That kept my arms very dry. The jacket is nice and light so it wasn’t killing me to have it on for a minute here in hot Texas. I basically think it is a nice waterproof windbreaker and of that is what you want, this is perfect and is a beautiful color. The jacket stopped just above my hipbones. I am 5’9” and about 130 lbs, 36” bust. I got the medium and it was baggie enough on me to fit a sweater or whatever underneath.
I bought this jacket first in an XL because I wasn't sure how it would fit, and I wanted to be able to wear layers on it. The XL was HUGE on me. I normally wear a size 10 or 12 in dresses, but I don't like my clothes being tight. Or to swim in my clothes either! So the XL went back to Amazon. I ordered a Large, and it's still a little too large, but I needed it for a hiking trip, so I didn't return it again.
It keeps the rain off of me really well, and the color is very noticeable in the woods. I wore this during a midnight kayaking trip in the rain, and I stayed perfectly dry underneath. I also like being able to pack it into the pocket and throw it in my bag all balled up, rather than carry it or folding it. Super convenient for travel!
If I ordered again, I'd probably buy a Medium, just so it wouldn't be SO BIG, but the Large works.
So far it has kept me dry. It's a little bulkier than expected so I wish I sized down. More than anything, I cannot stand the sleeves. They are huge but short. They have little velcro strips at the wrist to make them tighter, but my hands, wrists, and forearms are pretty small. So I can only tighten them so far and they still feel loose with a long flap of velcro left dangling around. Too short sleeves have always been a pet peeves of mine so maybe I'm going overboard with it, but this jacket doesn't even protect my watch because of it. :(
Purchased this jacket be a top layer on a trip to Iceland during their warmer season. I wanted something light to travel with that would protect against wind and rain. It’s served it’s purpose well. Rain and mud run right off of it, sleeves have the option to Velcro for a closer fit to keep out moisture. I found it a bit challenging to make it “packable” in the pocket, but it compresses easily into luggage without that. The mesh lining prevents the coat from adhering to you if you’re bare-armed under it. My one complaint is that the hood doesn’t come far enough past my head to protect my face, so I wore a cap under it. This won’t add much warmth, but it does cut the wind chill and functions as an outer shell. I foresee using this quite often for wet summers as well. I typically purchase women’s tops in medium unless they’re known to run big. I bought a medium, and if allows me ample room to put multiple layers under.
I bought this jacket because I needed a rain jacket that I could wear over multiple layers. I was going to Scotland and Ireland in mid-march and knew that I would be needing something for the rain. As far as keeping water out, this jacket does the job. It also did fairly well against the biting wind that sweeps through Edinburgh as long as I layered. I was usually wearing a scarf, a sweater (or two), and a couple of shirts underneath and I always felt like I had enough room. Please keep in mind that this jacket is NOT well-insulated, so I would not recommend it for someone who wants to use it daily in the winter. I bought it because it packs well and was perfect for travel. Overall, it's a good jacket. It's not the warmest jacket, so make sure you are wearing a lot of layers or are wearing it for a warmer rain.
Great rain jacket. Very lightweight but the mesh lining helps add a little bit more so you aren’t just wearing a paper thin shell. I ordered a small— I’m 5’6” and 145lbs. I am usually between a small and a medium but I decided to try the small and I’m glad I did. The small fits me perfectly. Not tight but also still a flattering shape. The sleeve length was also perfect and I’m someone who sometimes struggles to find long enough sleeves. I tried it on with just a T-shirt and it fit perfectly. I then put on a lightweight hoodie underneath it and that also fit perfectly. The only reason I give it only 4 stars is because it is LOUD! Sounds very swishy swishy swishy!!! I’m hoping the “swish swish” lessens after I wash it?
Finally, a jacket that fits like expected and has the features needed in a serious rain jacket. I am skinny woman but not petite in my 5'7" frame. This jacket has the right length arm sleeves with adjustable velcro at the wrists. And the hood is large enough to not get my hair wet. I tried several other jackets before this one and the arms and hoods were sized for petite women. I can't attest to the breath ability or waterproof as I've not used it in the rain but it has the material that I expect will work as described by Columbia. It does not have air holes under the arm pit area. I love the medium teal color I ordered.
Rolls up small into little backpack without wrinkling yet kept me dry and warm in heavy rains in the aftermath of the rains from hurricane Iota that caused a tropical depression in Costa Rica after it landed in Nicaragua. Impressive I thought! The pockets are good for a cell phone and more and zip up. There is a hood and Velcro tabs on the sleeve cuffs. It has a netted lining. It washed up nicely and hung to dry quickly. I’m 5-2, 140, 36B and purchased a M, and it was a bit snug with a shirt and light jacket underneath. Fit normally with just a light shirt.
I bought this jacket to replace an old North Face rain jacket with a worn lining and less coverage. Tried out the jacket in a hard rain two days after I got it. Performed well. Kept me dry--I like the velcro wrist tabs which help keep water out. It was also warm enough for the spring Chicago bluster. I wondered whether the jacket would be nipped in at the waist--picture seemed to show it would be, but at least one reviewer said the jacket was "too boxy" for her taste. It is slightly tapered--that is OK with me although I prefer a straight silhouette. I just packed the jacket for a trip. I was able to fit it into the pocket labelled "packable", but took it out and repacked it flat as it seemed to take up less room in my carry-on. Would have liked to have an inside pocket--my old jacket had one.
My old Gore-Tex jacket finally went kaput much to my dismay. I usually wear a large shirt, but I got the extra large jacket and I'm glad I did. It fits without any pulling when I sit down in the car when it's fully zipped. There is alot of extra room if I need to wear a fleece jacket underneath. It's not as warm as my old jacket though and I don't like the crinkly plastic sound.
