I ordered a size larger than I wear because of the customer comments both here and on Macy’s web sites. The jacket fits large, but since I ordered a size larger, I don’t know if my size would have fit too small. I can wear lots a layers under the jacket. It is warm, nor as light as I had hoped, but it’s ok. The sleeves were 3” too long, so I just hemmed them up by hand, turning them up 3” on the inside and blind stitching the hem. Looked ok, can’t really see it when I have the jacket on, but I didn’t want to cut them. Most jacket’s sleeves are too long as plus sizes are made to fit taller women. I’m 5’1.” Really like the jacket and like that Columbia is making larger sizes now. Price was much lower than Macy’s sale price for the identical jacket.
These do run a bit small. We ordered 2 of these coats. An adult medium for my daughter who is 11. This coat is the same size as her 14/16 Free country coat, but the arms are a little longer. She does complain her fit bit gets caught in the narrow sleeves. For myself I ordered a size up from my normal XL I received the 2x and it fits well. Even with a sweatshirt the arms are not constrictingly small. I was nervous because I tried on the 2x long version in a store and it felt tighter. This jacket is comfortable, cute and warm.

Love this coat! I ordered the size I felt would fit me right, I am pleased with it. The lining is so soft, and the cut is just right! I just wish the coat had inner pockets for phone and misc. Definitely happy with my purchase.

As a 5'10" former athlete with broad shoulders & a 38-40 F bust, finding comfortable coats is always a challenge for me. I can wear anywhere from XL to 2X depending on the brand. As a frequent Columbia shopper, I was aware the coat would run about half a size smaller than the label, which this coat does seem to. I do not like fitted clothing or coats, so I opted for the 2X. It is perfect. The sleeves are actually long enough, it easily zips over my...ample...chest and my pandemic belly, and it's incredibly comfortable and lightweight. I can even zip it comfortably over a heavy-duty hoodie.
I live in the Chicago area & we are currently in a cold (& snow!) snap. I just received this coat today, and went outside to test it. This might as well be a huge, bulky down puffer. It's inexplicably warm for being so lightweight. I can tell this will be easy to fold/pack for travel, and will even be comfortable while driving (which I do a lot of for work).
I know people appreciate details when shopping for clothes online, especially now when you may be looking for sizes you don't normally wear, due to some pandemic pounds. If you wear any of the sizes listed, I would recommend trying this coat. I don't usually give such glowing reviews, but after searching for a coat for SO long, dealing with zipper issues and too-short sleeves and the inability to zip over my chest, this is such a relief. I would personally go up a size, unless you prefer fitted. It seems to have a little stretch, so I think it's a matter of preference. Anyway, give it a shot! I very highly recommend this coat.
