These are misleading and lying on the package. They might be 'biodegradable' but they are NOT COMPOSTABLE. Our composting company warned me to not use these again and to only use bags that are truly compostable. They rave about the green color and how natural they are but it is all a marketing ploy. Apparently this is a common problem in the industry. Do your homework if you are composting for all the right reasons.
Some days as I'm tossing the plastic package from my soy-chorizo into this eco-friendly trash bag, I wonder.. why am I filling this corn-bag with plastic? Apparently I'm not cut out to be a "zero-waste" kind of person, but I still believe that every piece of plastic I don't use, could be a piece of ocean-debris saved. Plus, these are great quality and there are so many I won't have to buy trash bags for another few years. Get em!
These are working out just as I had hoped. I purchased the small 1.2 gallon size for our cat litter boxes. I go through one bag a day with 3 cats and I wanted something to help the environment. I hated having to throw away larger sized "plastic" bags into the trash every single day that would out last my grandkids lives in the compost. I tested these bags in our compost bin at first to see how they would break down, and when amply moistened and exposed to the elements, they actually do break down a lot faster than regular plastic. They're great!! And the small size is just the right size for cleaning out my 2 litter boxes messes at the end of each day. Very satisfied and would recommend highly to anyone. Even my very picky neighbors who are nature people all they way around.
Trying to find ways to be environmentally conscious, I figure I am probably the only person in the county doing this. These cost a lot more than economy brand white thirteen gallon made from crude oil / last 100 years in the landfill that we did use, so we went to smaller seven gallon size. which works out as a good size for one a day. I like that they are easy to tear off the roll, the cheap white ones were frustratingly difficult, and they are much easier to shake open. They are light weight, I occasionally rip one with a ragged finger nail but I have never had one break open from the load.
I live in a seniors apartment building. We have a trash room on each floor and in each trash room there is a chute for trash to go down to the dumpster, and a a couple of different containers for recyclables. You have to use something to carry the recyclables down to the trash, in. Using a regular plastic bag that you have to throw away kind of defeats the whole purpose of recycling. So using a bag that can be recycled is the perfect thing for people like me. The price is reasonable and I do use the bag a couple of times before recycling it, too. I have been using the bags for a few weeks and have not had any bag tear or get punctured. They are plenty big for my 8 gal waste basket I use them in. I'm very happy I found these bags and I highly recommend them.
These bags are perfect for what I use them for, which is cleaning the waste and litter out of my guinea pig cage. I got environmentally conscious about how many plastic bags I was using and throwing away to clean the cage, and looked for something like these. These are perfect, and I have gone through several rolls so-far without a single issue. Their thin walls are deceiving, as they’re quite durable! I just wish they had some easier method to tie them, but I’ve made do!
Using this in my Litter Genie instead of purchasing the Litter Genie cartridges that have a lot of extra plastic. Trying to find a more eco-friendly option for cat waste and looked into these since they are made of plant starch instead of plastic. Fit was great, but I didn't check the mil. First use the bag was easily punctured; not fun when you are transporting cat poop. I am using a double bag now, and it works fine.
Nice bag and I like the biodegradable aspect. My only complaint is that it is just a little too short for the trash receptacle I bought. The fancy step can I purchased called for 8 gallon bag and recommended this one, but when I twist the top band and pull the end through the locking hole, the bottom doesn’t rest on the bottom of the can, so it starts pulling away from the top rim when loaded. I’m going to look for a taller size.
We all buy these with good intentions and am happy this technology now exists, however the material should be a thicker gauge so it doesn't tare (like other reviewers have said) and degrade and weaken within a week, unless your garbage is dry. I have to use 2 bags. These could also use a tie strap. Also, hopefully when used, this goes directly into the garbage truck and not a plastic lined can, I can't see how these don't tare for the garbage man..I guess I have to pay more now for another product.
Very happy with these trash bags. They fit my 7gal IKEA trash bin easily, and are strong. Only minor challenge is tying them off well, but it's pretty easy too. Added: I purchased the smaller. size as well for my smaller 'room' trashcans (simplehuman bagsize C cans), and they're absolutely perfect. No overhang. I keep a roll in each of the cans as well so they're no fuss to replace. While I used to have feelings about buying bags for trash, these are better for the environment, especially when running out of trashcans.
