Chicken stock using bones on pressure cooking setting - Amazing! Insane amount of flavour extracted
Curried Lentil Dahl - Very quick. More than 10mins and they will be over cooked.
Chickpea Curry - Using dry straight dry chickpeas 60-90 mins but it works and great flour.
Lamb and Potato Stew (like Irish stew) - My personal Fav, made it twice. So good.
Homemade baked beans - Great but I should have used smoked paprika instead of regular for more flavour.
Coconut Basmati Rice - Insanely easy, quick and perfect.
Chicken with mushroom and white wine risotto - This one is a NO in my book. Risotto just needs to be done traditionally. Couldn't get that creaminess.
Beef Stew - Yes absolutely, just find a good recipe. I used a diced tomato based one and it was 'boring'. Too much like a ragout.
Tonight i'm making a Thai Green chicken curry in it.
One thing to remember is that vegetables and ingredients that cook quickly will be obliterated in a 30-60 min pressure cook setting so they need to be added at the end for just 10mins or so. You will learn it's strengths and weaknesses if you use a bit of cooking logic.
For example, this is how i do my lamb stew:
Salt, ground pepper, Meat, bones, onion browned then pressure cooked with 1.5L of water for 45mins. Remove bones once opened.
Peeled and quartered waxy potatoes added then pressure cooked for a further 45mins. This breaks down the potato but still leaves nice random chunks. Stew thickens from potatoes that do break down.
Diced carrot or any other vegetable of your choice added and a further final 15mins pressure cook. This leaves the carrot with some remaining texture but by now the lamb meat has gone insanely tender and melt in your mouth.
As you can see, there's a logical progression. Those informercials where they just 'dump' everything all at one are a fallacy and it will just come out as mush leaving you discouraged to keep using it.
Now I dropped one star off it because within a couple of days, the 'sauté' function stopped working and kept getting E5 errors no matter what troubleshooting I tried. I'm not sending it back because if you put it on 'Pressure Cook' setting without the lid, it gets super hot and you can brown that way before putting the lid on. So basically it hasn't affected my choices but nevertheless, disappointing that it happened and I'm not the first from what I've read. Sunbeam (maker of crock-pot) should really fix that because I'm sure they know about it,
Overall, definitely recommend and has helped me make better dishes more often.
