Crime noir set in BelfastReviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 July 2016
This book was recommended to me by a work colleague - I'm not normally a big reader of crime fiction but I decided to give this one a go...And I'm glad I did! The novel is fast paced and filled with well-rounded and engaging characters, and there are many unexpected twists in the plot. The author makes good use of local knowledge when writing his scenes set in Belfast and elsewhere in the North of Ireland. The story references the legacy of the Troubles but doesn't dwell on the past - instead the focus is on more contemporary and non-political crimes such as people smuggling and drugs. I also liked the lead character who I felt was realistically conflicted between his search for justice and his dark impulse for bloody vengeance. My only minor criticism relates to the frequent use of flashbacks, which I sometimes found confusing - However, the story strands came together well by the end of the book, so it was well worth sticking with it! All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from Mr Porter.
... avid reader and have certainly been known to get bored and not finish booksReviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2015
I am not known as an avid reader and have certainly been known to get bored and not finish books. Gladly this was not the case, I did get engrossed as the plot pulls you in inticing you to keep reading. It is one of those stories you could imagine as a gritty drama on tele. Looking forward to the Sequel or Prequel or even both. Come on Dave, get writing.

Great first bookReviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2014
A really surprising read from David Porter. Great first book which made me want to keep reading. Good storyline throughout and a few twists. Well done David, can't wait to see what comes next.
