I bought a small set a long time ago and I have used them every day in combination with my pastels. Now I need to replace I am going to buy the 72 set.
If I may, I would like to help people who are looking why pastels are different from coloured pencils as I noticed negative comments.
Firstly the pencils that you require are determined by their use. coloured pencils are that a true colouring or drawing pencil set. Used quite differently than than pastel pencils.
Pastel pencils for me, are used to add definition and in tandem with my pastels (soft not oil). The trick is to use them by holding the very end of pencil and gently skipping over the area that needs a bit more. by using them from the end and using no pressure (also charcoal works better using this technique ) they give a beautiful soft but vibrant laydown.
The picture above was a tutorial by Les Darlow a wonderful artist
Would I recommend them, heck yes. I would also recommend the pencils and the watercolour. In my opinion they are top of their class.

Buy the biggest range of colours.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 February 2015Style Name: Tin 72Verified Purchase
Lovely pencils! Fantastic quality! I read other Amazon reviews and took peoples advice on buying the larger range of colours. I am so glad I did. Thank you, to the people who take the time to write proper reviews.
They came sharpened. One less job to do. Although I thought the idea of a tin would be easy to use, tins are probably best for sending them in the post. The tin pops open when carrying them. The plastic tray is too flimsy for lifting out a layer. I didn’t like the feeling, that they may get knocked off the table or that the tray would collapse. I bought a Derwent Carry All Bag. The bag holds two pencils in each elasticated band. Problem sorted!
I've not used pastel pencils before. This is new ground for me. I have not used the pencils much more than starting a colour sheet. I am waiting on delivery of a set of grey colour shapers too. The pencils are as expected a bit crumbly when in use. Some colours are a bit scratchy on the paper but only very slightly. Light pressure is the key. Building up many layers, as I would with my beloved watercolours. The colours are superb. I can tell this will compete with my watercolour time. Heck I may get outrageous and combine the two!

Breaking in the actual tin!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 April 2018Style Name: Tin 12Verified Purchase
Got a lion on the tin rather than a lovely macaw, as advertised on site - which was a bit meh......!
Having begun to use these, have noticed that they break far, far too easily, so I am wasting tons of product.
Won't buy again.

First time I have used pastel pencils and although they seem ok I did buy a Derwent Sharpener but no matter how steady I am the one I decided needed sharpening is now down to half its size as it just continually breaks in the sharpener, therefore reluctant to give much use as they will not last long and are very pricey to boot

Love these pencils
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2016Style Name: Tin36Verified Purchase
I love these pencils, used them for my GCSE art coursework and they were a dream. They were perfect for me as I love graphite pencils but was looking for something with colour and easy to blend. Also had the added bonus of being the only one to use pastel pencils in my school so my artwork had a unique factor. Would definitely buy again.

Excellent value and quality
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 February 2011Style Name: Tin 12Verified Purchase
This is my second tin of these pastel pencils. They are excellent quality and spread very well on a variety of surfaces. They do not crumble or break easily which is great when doing fine work. High quality pigment and colour transfer.
