'The Dark King' by Graham McNeill
The acts of terror and warmongering by Konrad Curze, Primarch of the Night Lords Legion, have earned the ire of his brother primarch, Rogal Dorn. Wracked by terrible visions of the future, Curze is driven insane and attacks Dorn, setting the Night Lord on an inexorable course towards eternal damnation.
'The Lightning Tower' by Dan Abnett
Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists Legion, faces a stark reality - he must tear down the magnificence of the Emperor's Palace, a shining beacon in a galaxy of darkness, and turn it into a fortress. With the army of Horus drawing ever closer, as he blights the Palace with gunports and defence towers, Dorn must face a difficult question: 'What are you afraid of?'

Fun Stories

I enjoyed these, but I'm a Dan Abnett fan. The not necessarily critical elements to the Horus Heresy plot, but good background, detail information. It's a big galaxy, and it's nice to know that things are happening in other places. However, I felt the emasculation of Roga Dorn took away from the essential spirit of a "primarch." There was however, something poetic about his fear and the fact that he builds fortresses to "hide in."

Nice Addition to the Horus Heresy Series
Reviewed in the United States on 20 September 2011Verified Purchase
I enjoy these WH40K audio dramas, although I don't think this one provides the entertainment value of later releases. Of the two stories on this CD, I prefer "The Dark King" as it provides more details to the background and character of Konrad Curze, Primarch of the Night Lords Legion. "The Lightning Tower" focuses on Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists Legion and is more introspective, making him seem more human than superhuman.
If you are not familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 universe, these audio dramas are not the place to start. If you are already a fan, then I highly recommend the audio drama CDs.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Black library is coming a long way with this series. All the Horus Heresy, written and audio is incredible.

both good

The audiobooks bridge gaps left in the story of the Heresy, which are put into print in Shadows of treachery, but it is still a good item for a collector
