Kept interest throughout. The main detective has to work with interesting restrictions. He triumphs in the end and leaves one with a satisfied feeling.

Very much enjoyed this addition to the Tom Janssen series. A really nice blend of Toms personal life and his police life, it’s well written with some great plot directions.. The characters are developing well and very likeable and I always enjoy the countryside and town descriptions, it makes me feel like I’ve almost been there. As always, the pace is just right and keeps me reading, I couldn’t put it down.

Best Yet! Two murders. An old woman and a professional man. Close by but seemingly no connection. Pressure is put on the small closely knit police team when one of them could be too involved. Relationships are threatened, emotions run high and judgments are made in this thrilling mystery where you will not see the end coming! A must read from the amazing Jason Dalgleish!

What an excellent novel. J M Dalgliesh has really stepped up with this one. Interesting and complicated topics make for an intricate plot that hold the reader until the very end. The depth of narrative for each scenario and character is wonderful. Just loved this addition to the Norolk series. Well done, highly recommended.

Another case for Tom Janssen, but so much closer to home.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2020Verified Purchase
This series by JM Dalgleish is of a high quality, the stories well written, the characters realistic in their actions and motives. This is the fifth book set in Norfolk.
A woman, Mary, is found dead in the sea at Blakeney Harbour.
She is an activist looking out for and protecting the fragile coastal marshland habitat along the north Norfolk coast. Nearby, a journalist is found murdered in his cottage.
At first these two incidents seem unrelated but the man is the ex husband of Alice and Alice is partner to DCI Tom Jansen so he’s not allowed to investigate.
To make matters worse Alice was at the cottage earlier and was seen by the neighbours.
Tom investigates Mary’s death but is increasingly suspicious that there are ties linking an energy company, Mary the activist and the journalist.
Is Alice involved? Why was she at the cottage of her ex? The mystery is solved though the actual perpetrators are not who you might think!
I can thoroughly recommend the book and I enjoyed it so much I read it through in one sitting. Please do read the series, though each of the books work well as stand alone novels.

Another brilliant addition to the Hidden Norfolk series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2020Verified Purchase
This is another beautifully scripted book from Mr. Dalgliesh. It is set around two murders in Norfolk. One victim is the ex husband of DI Jansen and the other a self appointed wildlife warden. The story has a few interesting sub plots. Are the murders related? Is DI Jansen's partner a suspect? There is a realism to all the characters. None of them has too much emotional baggage which can be irritating. They are all thoroughly believable with the same home lives that most of us have with the same ups and downs. This makes them appear, to me, a lot more realistic. All in all, another extremely good book.

Great read

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and the series of books. Others have described the story so I won't say more than as ever the author makes you feel for every character and every twist and turn is believable. Having said that, I hope the next book in the series, which I have ordered, leaves Tom's private life out of it. I want to read a crime novel not a romance novel; I really don't care about the private lives of the main characters as more often than not it's padding and it just gets in the way of the story.

The latest in the Wild Norfolk series does not disappoint
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 November 2020Verified Purchase
This is the latest in the Wild Norfolk series featuring DI Tom Janssen. This time the murder investigation threatens his relationship with his partner and he is ordered to distance himself from it and concentrate upon another, seemingly unrelated murder. Inevitably the two converge as common factors are revealed
This was a fast and enjoyable read with an interesting plot. The author's knowledge and love of Norfolk is apparent.. I spent 2 summers working in hotels in Great Yarmouth as a student and have some acquaintance wirh Norwich and Sheringham which gives the series a bit of added interest for me.
Recommended if you're looking for a police procedural series.

Another excellent read from this author, can't go into details as don't want to spoil it for others. Poor Insp Tom, he is always in trouble but he has a sharp mind and can get through his problems, near miss this time though. Thoroughly recommend this book, roll on the next one.
