I placed an order for 4 pairs of cargo shorts from Amazon, all size 42 waist, all completely different brands made in completely different places. I'm 6'1" tall, weigh about 250 pounds, and have VERY fit, strong legs and a large-ish waist. The shorts I ordered were these Dickies,
Southpole Men's Belted Ripstop Basic Cargo Short
Carhartt Men's Rugged Cargo Short Relaxed Fit
Riggs Ripstop Ranger Short
These Dickies were ok. The waist sits higher than I'm used to, a fair bit higher than is necessary to keep my butt crack from being exposed when I bend over. Maybe plumbers should consider wearing these. But the legs are HUUUUGE!!! It's like wearing a tent on each leg! Looked nothing like the model in the photo.
The pockets are deep and easy to access. The material feels stiff, but that seems to be a trademark of the Dickies brand. From experience, I know that it softens up nicely over time.
I'm not sure if I'll keep them. The legs feel so cavernous, it's not very pleasant. I guess they DO have the words "loose fit" in the name, but this is ridiculous.
I needed some long lasting work shorts for my job doing outside grounds keeping. My prior shorts would rip and snag. These are durable, easy to wear, comfortable and the material is of good quality. The size is pretty true to fit and it does not have a button but a slide type of button. Works for my job and I don't have to worry about rips, tears or my butt showing
I love these shorts because they look tailored and are so durable, and he loves them because he can stay comfortable all day in them..They're very sturdy fabric and can be dressed up or down. I mean, obviously they'd never be invited to a black tie affair but he can go from attending a posh backyard bash to workin' on the truck in his flip flops lol. We highly recommend to anyone looking for a great looking and sturdy, deep pocketed cargo shorts. (:
I love Dickies clothing. The product overall is very good. These shorts are nice and loose fitting which is perfect for me. My only gripe is that they are longer than what I expected. This is the reality of buying clothes online. Overall good buy.
I ordered a 42. I am 6 ft for scale. Just so you know, if you saw the model and thought thats how short it goes, it goes quite shorter than you might think. Its comfortable and by just touching the fabric you know its made to last.
First impression was like, wow, if I was any shorter, these could count as high water pants.
Finally, shorts long enough for my 6'3" son. Bought these for him for work. He needed something that was durable but comfy AND he needed pockets. These are perfect. They look nice too. A nice dark black. They are not washed out looking at all. My son loves them! I ended up buying him a 2nd pair!
So I followed some of the previous comments and purchased a pair of these shorts that was 1 size larger than what I normally get, and they are very snug. Also, they have a clasp-type closure (instead of a button), which seems kind'a small and makes me nervous about that snapping at some point later on. Lastly, the legs on these shorts are HUGE, and it definitely does not fit as shown. Also, good luck getting a belt in those loops... You can do it, but it's not easy.
On the flip side, the material is great and VERY durable. The pockets have nice big sections of velcro to keep them closed as well.
All in all, decent shorts, but I haven't a feeling they wont last because of the clasp closure at the waist.
