Originally from Philadelphia, Samantha lives and works in Brooklyn with her husband and two boys. I follow Sam on IG and am captivated by her work (if not perhaps a touch obsessed!). I bought her first book back in 2018 and loved it dearly but it took for the release of DYW for me to rush to the art shop for a fresh new sketchbook to get started on my own sketch journal. I’m still going strong a week on. Sam guides you through her art work and journaling practice in a more instructional way with little tasks and prompts to follow, if that is your jam. But as ever, she is humble and never bossy so it’s with a very relaxed voice she teaches us. I would love for her next book to be more of her work, something like a curated sketch journal from the past few years of pages she’d be happy to share with us as it is her perspective on everyday life with its nuances, subtleties and even a few profound moments which I love the most about her.

I’m over the moon with Samantha’s new book and for sharing with the world how she simplifies every object. I’m mostly excited about the section on perspective; from a book on a table to a bigger structure. In general the book as always has beautifully pencil sketches and fully coloured.
