What kind of boring adult have I become my inner self lamented as I opened the package containing my new KIBAGA Salt and Pepper Grinders. "OMG these are really nice" I exclaimed to my wife, utterly unaware of the banality of this moment. "THIS is what a salt and pepper grinder are supposed to be" I mused utterly in denial of the suffering of billions of other human lives. "I really like how much they hold as well" I remarked missing the irony of the statement due to the void of consumerism that has gripped my soul.

While these salt and pepper grinders have done NOTHING to raise the moral/spiritual/ethical status of my life they have definitely made cooking more enjoyable and predictable. Isn't that the TRUE american dream in our modern age, comfort and predictability?

I love these! I'd gotten a salt and pepper grinder set as a housewarming gift many years ago, so I never looked at another set. Recently, I began using Pink Himalayan Salt experimentally, and while the old grinder did (eventually) grind the salt, it wasn't an easy process, nor did it get the salt as fine as I thought I would like it to be.

So I resorted to browsing Amazon's products and found these. Wow, what a difference! The grinders work extremely well - it takes little time and effort to produce the right amount. I love that you can adjust how course or fine you want the result to be. I love how tall and stately these are. And I love the caps on top that stop the grinder to get grodie and gross. :-D

So now I know what to get my friends when it's time to give a housewarming gift.

Inexpensive, but coarseness inconsistent - you get what you pay for

Pros:

Inexpensive
They look nice....from a distance

Cons:

-Having an adjustable coarseness setting is nice, but it produces pretty inconsistently sized particles. I tend to like my salt and pepper fairly coarse, and on that setting I get a melange of all different sizes (including very fine)
-The glass is obviously cheap glass, in that up close the optical quality is poor. it has a kind of wavy, ripply look and just looks like cheap glass. You can also see the seams where they injected the molten glass into a mold.
-The stainless steel tops are very thin and cheap feeling

Other thoughts:

For the price they're okay, I guess. I wasn't expecting much, and planned to buy some nicer ones down the road when there's more money the bank account. Do be aware that there are many listings here and elsewhere online for what appears to be the exact same product, and different sellers just slap their "brand" on it. I believe it's just a generic Chinese product that sellers brand as their own. I mention this because you can probably find a different listing for the same thing that is a little cheaper.

I'm not disappointed, and it's about what I expected for the price. Just know you're not getting something comperable to a $50+ set. If it we'ren't priced so affordably I'd give it 3 stars, but because the price is very reasonable I'll give it 4.

More thoughts:

If you're like me and wanted something inexpensive for now, but plan to buy nice ones later, keep in mind that you can repurpose these for grinding more exotic stuff, like rosemary, thyme, cumin, .....whatever other whole herbs or spices you like. I prefer buying unground spices since they keep better and seem to deliver a better flavor. So there's that.

UPDATE: I originally gave this product 3 stars, when it really deserved 4 when taking into account the price. The seller contacted me and set things right, so I'll give it a very hearty 4 stars when also taking that customer service into account.

I received these last weekend and when I tried them out, one of the grinders seemed to have an issue (to be honest, I wasn't sure if it was the grinder or me). At any rate, I posted a question on the product page about it and I was contacted almost immediately by a representative from the seller.

They asked me to contact them through my order and they sent out a replacement set right away. I didn't even have to return the other set.

The new set works like a dream. I also love a couple of other things about them. 1) They hold a lot more salt and pepper than my old grinders did. 2), They look great. It's a set that would be just as comfortable on a nicely set dining room table as they would be in the kitchen.

Great product, great customer service.

These were advertised as an excellent, ALL STEEL BODY spice grinder. The moment I took them out of the package the "all steel body" turned out to be a 0.5MM thin, soft stainless steel of around 150 grade overlayed atop hard, easily fractured vulcanized plastic components. 3 months after I bought this pair the one grinder I had been using finally died after 14+ years. Got one of these out, loaded it with 1-3MM rock salt chunks that were not at all hard, and failed before it had even ground through 1/4 of the bottle while jamming constantly on the cheap, easily fracturing "ceramic". Thought that it was a fluke until taking it apart, then discovered the "ceramic" pieces floating amongst the 0.4MM or so salt flakes. Excuse me? These are JUNK. Buyer beware: do not buy this trash!
