But Its just all wrong. It will give you neck problems. No matter the adjustments your neck and upper back will have no support.
Also your head will not be facing forward when you want to get some work done. It can only be used if you are looking towards the ceiling.
For what it costed me .... what a waste of money. I don't know if it is the chair design or not.... but I'm even thinking of selling the whole chair because of
the headrest.....
I really like how the headrest can be adjusted in multiple ways, how comfortable it is and how it perfectly matches the chair. No one would think that the chair and headrest were purchased separately.
Congratulations to the engineers/designers of this beautiful product. Very well done !

So in summary, everything that is supposed to be fixed in place moves.
When you buy a headrest for over £130 you expect it to be properly engineered and last. This piece of garbage wasn't functional from day one and maybe I'm lucky because even if it had been, the faults are the kind of faults that would develop over time. Garbage fisher-price engineering on an exceptionally expensive product. Getting my money back.

It arrived very quickly, and the colour matched that of my chair pretty much exactly.
Opening the box, inside was the headrest, and alum key and a replacement bolt. The replacement bolt is to be used if you had a size A (smallest chair).
So without reading instructions, I loosened the clip to allow it to clip onto the back of my chair, and then did them up. Once in place I noticed the headrest would flop about a bit. At which point I decided to read the instructions...
So, once adjusted to your perfect position, you then use a screwdriver to prise off the screw covers and then you can tighten up bolts or screws. This then puts the headrest into place.
Note over time, or if you lean back hard, you can get some minor movement of the headrest still.
Pros
- Head rest is extremely comfortable
- Well made of high quality materials and looks great.
Cons
- Very very expensive for what is just a headrest
In summary this is a great headrest. However I paid £145 for this, which in my eyes is a lot of money for a headrest. To put things in perspective I paid £325 for my chair, so this headrest is almost half the price of a refurbished chair. Or to put it another way, you can buy a reasonably good no brand chair with a headrest for similar money!
BUT if you have a Herman Miller Aeron chair and you want a headrest, you really don't have much alternative. And fortunately for something which is the only choice, it is a very good headrest.
Update 1st Dec 2020: This headrest is still going strong and is as good as new still. I've recently got an office chair with headrest for less money than this headrest. Yes the other chair it's not quite as comfortable, but really does emphasise my statement I made about it previously!

Update 1st Dec 2020: This headrest is still going strong and is as good as new still. I've recently got an office chair with headrest for less money than this headrest. Yes the other chair it's not quite as comfortable, but really does emphasise my statement I made about it previously!

This headrest has two swivel points, the main for the compete headrest has a locking lever allowing the position to be set but there are no interlocking teeth to lock it into position when the lever is in the lock position so the locking process purely relies on the swivel screw tension, this means occasionally the swivel screw will require tightening by removing the plastic cap and using the Alen key provided. The headrest on my previous chair clicked to each position then stayed in that position until the next adjustment.
The mesh pad has an angle adjustment which means it also swivels but doesn't have a lock lever so it has to be adjusted purely against the swivel joint friction which means it will loosen more often and require tightening. As the Herman Miller Aeron chair is reclined the headrest position will require adjustment so if you recline as frequently as I do you will need to adjust the headrest which means you will be tightening the swivel screws more often. Spring loaded mechanisms work better
The Mesh pad also incorporates basic height adjustment, it slides up and down two thin bars, when I adjust it to the top and place my head on the pad it slides to the bottom of the bars and there's no way to tighten it so this function is a waste of time.
I now see why this headrest came with an Alen key and two spare caps, tightening the swivel screws to increase friction will become a common event. I'm by no means a design engineer but this headrest is riddled with basic flaws as follows
1. The locking mechanisms shouldn't rely on friction alone, it's not rocket science to incorporate a more positive locking process, the basic spring loaded click mechanism works and relies less on friction.
2. The headrest angle adjustment doesn't incorporate a lock lever which makes it more prone to becoming loose and requiring tightening. A spring loaded pull pin on one side with locking holes positioned through the rotation range would resolve this one. Pull the pin reposition the pad to the preferred hole position and the spring locates the pin to hold the headrest in the new position.
3. The pad height adjustment is a waste of time it slides down to the lowest position and can't be tightened which means it stays at the lowest position. Due to the lack of a tightening mechanism the sliding process will cause wear so the plastic pad guides will become loser over time and remain loose. This would be resolved by a simple locking lever to reduce friction during position adjustment and increase friction to hold position similar to the process used on the main swivel but less prone to becoming loose due to less weight being involved vertically as opposed to back and forward on the main swivel.
4. The Aeron comes with a 12yr warranty, this head rest looks as though it may last up to perhaps 5yrs depending on use. For the price it should have been designed in keeping with the chairs design life. At this rate if I keep my chair 10yrs+ I'm most likely going to require at least two head rests.
If the improvement from version 1 to version 2 is anything to go on version 3 will be better but most likely double the price again. Some of you may say why didn't I buy a chair incorporating a headrest, my answer is, the ergonomics of the Aeron is the best I've experienced for posture and comfort, I need this for a medical issue with my neck and the adjustable positioning of this headrest helps but version 2 could have been better designed, all the points I've raised are basic issues.

All parts of this headrest where tight enough out of the box for me. I’ve only tightened up the height position slightly to make it even more firm. If you would like to tighten up even further then you could and this would keep the headrest in one position without possibility to move it.
Some reviews said that plastic caps covering the screws where hard to remove. Honestly with a bit of care and patience they were peace of cake to remove, without damaging. If however somehow you’ve managed to damage these, then guess what, product comes with a spare pair of these caps to replace.
Some other reviews mentioned that horizontal adjustment (silver bars adjustment) are not tight enough. That is not true in my experience but if you still have a problem with tightness than this product comes with clamps which you can assemble on these silver bars to lock the headrest in desired position.
Product quality is great. Mesh matches exactly the colour of the chair. Mash structure is slightly different but you really need to look closely to notice this. The only downside is that mesh is touching neck skin directly and while it is overall very comfortable, it might feel a bit cold, especially in a winter time. I think nice plushy pillow would do much better here but then it would not match the chair as good as the mesh. The only cons is the price. It’s a lot of money for a peace of plastic and mesh.
Summarising, I am very happy with the product but unhappy with negative reviews as they were very misleading for me to an extent that I’ve almost purchased atlas version of this headrest from USA (delivery to UK would take much longer). I am glad I’ve choosen this one over atlas.

The hidden adjustment screws for the headrest vertical position and tilt are poorly implemented and don't function as well as they should: with both as tight as I can get them there's still too much slack play on the headrest position.
They should be redesigned/replaced with the paddle lever -style of adjustment as used on the forward/back setup - and as on the actual chair itself.
Worth it? Yeah, with the reservations above - and after dropping £1k on a chair it's a relatively cheap add-on! ;)
