Product description

A Farewell To Kings spawned the band’s first commercially successful radio hit “Closer To The Heart” & will see a 40th anniversary release. The original album’s 2015 remaster by Abbey Road Mastering Studios is featured for the first time on CD. The Hammersmith Odeon February 1978 show is now available for the first time as a complete concert, newly mixed by Terry Brown. Additional bonus tracks includes four cover songs from Dream Theater, Big Wreck, The Trews & Alain Johannes along with a studio outtake of the spacey sound effects from “Cygnus X-1” called “Cygnus X-2 Eh”. 40th anniversary package receives brand new cover art along with new illustrations for each song by Hugh Syme & 12,000 word liner notes by Rob Bowman.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars? Are you MAD?!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2018
Hear me out.. this is a very good remaster of a very good album by a very good band, BUT look at the timeline - it's sandwiched between the two stone-cold classic Rush albums of 2112 and Hemispheres and it pales somewhat in such exalted company. Obviously 'Xanadu' is one of the great Rush tracks, but to my mind completely outshone by the (live) Exit Stage Left version. Cygnus X-1 is epic sure, but not as good as Cygnus X-1 book 2 (from Hemispheres). And so we come to Closer To The Heart - listen; at a Rush gig I'll be singing along with gusto, of COURSE, but is it a track I'd just put on of itself like Tom Sawyer, The Trees or By-Tor? Nope.

The other tracks are decent, immaculately performed (obviously) but just don't really spark any particular interest (for me). I always felt on vinyl that the production sounded slightly 'thin' on this album - not 'tinny' or anything but just lacking a little midrange 'oomph' and the remaster stays close to the original vinyl (superbly one has to say, all the early Rush remasters have a gorgeously analogue sound) but in the pantheon of Rush albums, this isn't one I'd necessarily reach for.

And because I'm writing this review on Amazon, specifically bearing in mind that people could be looking at Rush albums having maybe heard 2112 or Hemispheres (or both) and realising this falls in between those two behemoths and, ahem, rush to purchase, I felt it necessary to rank it in context. 🎸

5.0 out of 5 stars RUSH - STEVEN WILSON 5.1 MIX - WELL WORTH IT!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 June 2019
I have just been reborn in “RUSH’s TRUE 5.1 MIX” by STEVEN WILSON!!! This is a SUPERB DELUXE EDITION!
Listening to the 5.1 mix gave me goosebumps!
The clarity of musical instruments, the dedicated sounds coming from all speakers; that is “no recreated ambience” from the rear speakers!, never heard before sound effects; this edition is very well worth what was paid and imported from the UK-US to final destination PANAMA!
And of course, the 180g LP’s, CDs including a well mixed Rush live concert from the 70’s, tour book, ring and necklace, and a visually outstanding collector’s box, all as a BONUS to me!
For sure I will be having a “RUSH LISTENING SESSION” with Rush fan-friends soon!
For those who are not sure, do not think twice and buy it! It will make your RUSH day and night!!
I have already read reviews stating other RUSH 5.1 mixes are not worth buying due to poor quality and below average quality, so I will only stick with this ONE! as the BEST of the BEST! RUSH collector’s box!
