You can do fast 800 keto - that's pretty much what the book tells you and how much protein you should need in stage 1, 2, 3. It does have a meal plan including a vegetarian and a section with those recipes and add ons you can eat in case you need extra protein throughout the day. A salad section which doesn't count towards your daily calories. I live alone and decided to buy the ingredients for the first 2 days. It was so costly - over $110 for the first 2 days as I had no ingredients. I even went to the bulk foods section and only got a bit of almonds, ground almonds and pecans. This is too costly for me so I won't be doing the meal plan on going but I will need to repeat these first 2 days to ensure I use all the contents I purchased. I will need to research to find a similar nutritional profile elsewhere.

This book has really been a game changer. It's a good guide but this diet could not sustainable for long periods.

Having read most of Dr Mosley's books, and especially the excellent recipe books, I was initially sceptical in purchasing this "latest Information " book as I have others relating to this subject matter. So I purchased on Kindle and the audiobook and I was delightfully surprised at the new information, presentation, stories and recipes. What I like about this latest version is that it cites the latest research, especially research done here in Australia to support his recommendations and facts. The book is concise, easy to read and give a sense of proportion as to what a good eating plan can be and how it can be carried out with realistic expectations. This book is not just about weight loss but is about Health and balance and longevity without all the speculation and hype. As a Naturopath, I can now recommend this book that will get my clients started on a sensible eating plan if weight loss is their goal. This book is great value for money and is the best book on this subject. Mosley's writing style really stands out in this presentation. Highly Recommended and five stars from me !

To start with, this is not a true keto book. Recommends 50g of carbs per day, not the benchmark of 20. Also focuses much more on protein than fat, and continues to promulgate the idea of "healthy fats" while demonising meat. Not even thirty pages in and he celebrates that 60's propaganda got people to stop eating animal products such as meat and butter, while lamenting only that it didn't lead to people eating more produce. It also follows a three stage plan, of which only the first is keto.
Additionally, less than ten pages in the author decries the "carbon footprint" of eating animal products, which automatically ideologically aligns the entire rest of the books. Sure enough, the opening of the second chapter announces the heroism of the "fat acceptance" movement while only apologetically admitting that obesity is unhealthy. No book about diet and health should be affirming the toxic ideology of woefully unhealthy people.
There is another issue with the book. It is formatted to include the least amount of words per page as can possibly be gotten away with in order to spread the non-recipe content over 160 pages. This seems like a transparent attempt to bulk up the physical size of the book in order to convince people that it is worth the quite unreasonable price. It is further padded out by the sort of success stories you'd expect to see on a website trying to sell you something, not in a book you've already brought. These anecdotes are also apropos of nothing, lazily crammed into random sections just to fill space.
The recipes appear to be no more useful, noteworthy, or easy to make than any other keto cookbook or even free online recipe page. Perhaps the one redeeming factor of this book is its admittance that vegetable oils are not good for you.
In short, this book is worthless. It is worthless because it doesn't offer any actual advice that people haven't heard a thousand times before unless they just stepped out of a time machine from the 80's. In fact, due to how heavily ideological it is, it's probably worse than worthless. This book is little more than capitalising on a trend and selling his brand name.

What a load of rubbish! Rehash of all the other books but isn’t keto. Oats, flour, apples etc….that’s as far as I got before returning it for a refund. How can they get away with incorrect information….for people just starting out, this leads them in the completely wrong direction. Trying to make more money without putting the work in.

You will be in ketosis... Despite what other reviews say.

Very happy with this book and I'm not new to keto either, I've done it for many years.. this is different to my old keto principles that is true, what isn't true is that you won't reach ketosis - you will.
The calories are low so you can eat a little more carbs (still low just not the very very low I used to do). The keto sticks will reassure you it works.
Bottom line is I found the traditional keto hard to do long term and this is better for my lifestyle. Its 12 weeks of low carb low calorie to lose up to 4.6lb a week (800kcal). Followed by slight relaxing of the rules which I personally appreciate. Its still low carb but means unlike the keto of old I used to do i won't be vegetable and fruit deprived. I just don't feel that lifestyle is good long term (and neither does Michael). It was great to drop weight but not to live on and this book follows that idea. You'll end up on a Mediterranean style diet at goal and that's been proven to be excellent for health.
The bad reviews from strict keto fans are unfair. This is an alternative that still allows the body to enter ketosis and drop weight fast.
Also the recipes are great - and many are less than 10g carbs. Pictured is Tandoori chicken kebab.
(I for one enjoyed the Black bean chilli with 16g of carbs as one of my two meals that day and I stayed in ketosis (see attached pic of my Ketostix). Win. 😊)
Another update - I've just done my first full week. I have lost a whopping 11lb. After the initial big loss I'm losing 1lb a day. My husband has lost a little bit more. We are thrilled and excited to continue. 😊

Fabulous keto plan explained simply
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 December 2021Verified Purchase
I am a keto devotee and had been happily in ketosis for 3 years prior to lockdown and then let it slide for the whole of last year. This book arrived at just the right moment for me and has enabled me to get right back on track and - five days in - I am down just over 8lbs and, more importantly, the happiest I've been since I slipped off the keto wagon! Keto + VLCD +TRE seems like a perfect partnership. The science is presented in a very readable way, then there is the 'how to' and then a whole bunch of keto recipes. I feel I have a pathway to health and weight loss from the initial strict 12 weeks to the next phase of only strict on 4 consecutive days a week to only strict on 2 days a week. Great book by someone who says what he does and does what he says. If you want to lose weight and or feel well, get the book and get cracking!

I have lost two and a half stones on a low carb diet after decades of battling my weight. I have one stone to go and bought this book to see if there was any new information. I knew most of the theory but had resigned myself to eating a less than ideal daily diet. This book explains the dangers of processed foods and the recipes are simply marvellous.

Disappointed

I thought this book would be the same quality as the previous fast 800 recipe book. Sadly It’s just a plan old paperback with just 8 pages of colour photos of a very small selection of dishes.
Wish I’d known as I’d have downloaded the kindle version instead.
That said I do rate Michael Mosley and so I’m sure I’ll gain something from it.

The diet works really well but the content isn't radically new from previous books
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 January 2022Verified Purchase
Doing the Keto 800 works well. Me and my wife lost nearly a stone in a week.
The recipes are pretty good, no complaints from me there.
The first half of the book for me what a lot of repetition of the previous books. The amount of new content does not justify a new book. All you need to know is keep your carbs under 50g a day whilst following the Mediterranean style recipes of the previous books.
Couldn't help but feel I was reading a lot of padding. The author loves testimonies about how the diet works for them. I would prefer details on the science, analysis of the latest research, making the case for the diet. If your new to this then the book is worth it. If you've got the fast 800, just drop your carbs to 50g a day and use the same recipes and wait for a second hand copy.
