This is a poor final book to a very ordinary prequel series. The first was the best, which wasn’t that wonderful. They are rather formulaic and seem to be a case of being on a good thing and just keeping on going.
The best Bridgerton books are the first, second and sixth. It’s time for a different theme for books, more originality.
This book wasn’t worth the $2.99 paid for it.

Unfortunately I felt that Ms Quinn had really “phoned in” this one. There wasn’t much of a story and I was surprised to see I was 60% through the book without much having happened. The story was comforting as Ms Quinn’s novels often are but there was very little substance.

Georgiana Bridgerton has been ruined by being in the company of a man for ten hours with no chaperone. Not that he had been able to have his way with her. A quick knee to his manly parts ensured that! Since he is a fortune hunter she has no intention of marrying him and her family agree but....
Lord Manston is her Godfather and feels obligated to help in some way. His youngest son, Nicholas, is as yet unmarried and just a little older than Georgie.
These two have known each other their whole lives without really knowing each other.
This story shows how difficult life was at that period for women. Georgie is obviously extremely intelligent, as is Nicholas, but he is allowed to study medicine while she isn’t. The only job that any lady could do was to be a wife and mother.
This is so much more than a romance although that is there too.

The Rokesby series is the most uneven so far. The first book was not good at all. Second and third were filled with mistery and adventures. This one again is rather pleasant but dull. You expect... something but it never happens. The most "action packed" moment is right at the beginning when Nicolas is faced with the big decision. He makes it and.... he is happy about it. It is not the worst book by Julia Quinn ("The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever " is a struggle, and "When he was wicked" was just annoying to me!) it it surely not the best. I am truly fond of the author, and I find many of her books funny, romantic and very entertaining. Just not this one...

Georgiana and Nicholas have known each other all their lives, however, when she finds herself facing ruin, Nicholas steps in to save her by offering marriage.
Not my favourite of the series, however, it was sweet in parts and it was a joy to see a young Anthony, Benedict and baby Colin. Also I did think the Butlers were quite funny.
Unfortunately the book seemed to lack in plot, particularly the second half, which just involves a newly married Nicholas and Georgiana's journey to Edinburgh and settling into married life (which as a story of a marriage of convenience blossoming into romance could have had a lot of scope, but actually just not much happened).
I have to say that a lot of Quinn's more recent books don't match up to her older ones like the original Bridgerton series. The humour often seems forced and overly silly, and the dialogue repetitive and awkward at times.

All in all this book was quite disappointing, it’s not bad but nowhere as good as all Julia Quinn’s other books. It feels like you’re waiting for the story to start and then it’s over. There seems to be chunks of the story missing, One minute they’ve announced they’re getting married, the next they’re married & travelling to Edinburgh with no explanation of what happened in between. Which is not as bad as the 3 week jump later. which leaves a lot of questions & unbelievability to the story. It was nice to see appearances from characters from other books including baby Colin who’s story in a previous book is one of my favourites.

First off, I never thought I'd be writing a negative review regarding this author and this is my first ever Kindle review, after having previously read over 2000 Kindle books which kind of indicates my level of disappointment.

This has all the usual elements that make me love a new Julia Quinn book but it just feels as though she as not put enough effort into the development of the characters and the plot. As probably one of many who pre purchased this many months ago and as a cynic, I just wonder if the author felt she needed to work at this as much as she would have done with her earlier books.

I've always loved the Bridgerton series and glad to see the Rokesby series runs alongside. Although there is a strict moral code at this time, it is rather unfair to young women who – through no fault of their own – are placed in a situation where their reputations are ruined. I like the way this is handled in this story, with Georgie refusing to accept pity from Nicholas. On the other hand Nicholas is not sure he wants to marry, especially when his father is telling him he must save Georgie's reputation. The question is will pride get in the way, or will they realise this could be the saving of them both? Great book in keeping with the previous stories, but definitely a stand alone novel.
