This is the second book I have of this author. It was a good read although I did skim over parts, it became a bit repetitive in the middle. Did not see the ending coming hence the 4 stars.

Quite and enjoyable read. The story goes βaround and around β a bit, but is still quite interesting. A lot of the issues in the story go on in real life, so some good lessons to be learned.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Full disclosure, I did request an ARC of this book, but that didn't stop me from squealing with delight when I was approved for it! I have loved Sue Watson's thrillers ever since reading her first one and this book did not disappoint either. It was creepy enough to keep me hooked without being far fetched as some books in this genre can be. Towards the end I did begin to guess a part of the twists but Sue still managed to add further twists which I did not anticipate, making it another great read. This book will definitely leave you questioning the safety of online dating and just how real people are on their social media profiles. Another great thriller from this author, the only problem with it being such a page turner is now having to wait patiently and hope she is currently in the process of writing another one. βββββ#netgalley #suewatson #firstdate #goodreads #tea_sipping_bookworm #bookstagram #bookqueen #thrillers #plottwists

When you hear that Sue Watson is releasing a new book, you know you are going to be getting one that will take you on a wild roller coaster ride full of twists and turns and First Date is no different. In fact, I will go as far as to say that First Date is her most twisted read yet. For Sueβs last release, The Sister In-Law, I said in my review that it was her best work to date, but First Date now holds that title!
First Date will have you hooked, completely addicted and will get you thinking about your own first dates. If you are single, after reading this, you may never want to go on another first date again! If you are happily married reading this, you will thank your lucky stars that you are and no longer part of the dating scene!
The story plays out like an episode of the crime show Obsession Dark Desires and just had my skin crawling and feeling uncomfortable the further that I got into the book. Sue Watson has done a superb job of making you feel this way, upping the tension and suspense within each chapter in the lead up to an ending that will absolutely blow your mind! Sue Watson you are one very wicked woman! Very wicked indeed!
As always Sueβs writing is on point and she is just one of the reasons that I love the psychological thriller genre so much. She knows how to get into her characters and readers heads and her stories are always fresh and exciting. Most importantly, when it comes to her finales, she never disappoints. They are always jaw dropping with you thinking about the book long after you have finished reading it.
Sue Watson has really delivered with First Date. It is creepy, gripping, a real page turner in every sense of the word and she just nails everything in it, from the story, the characters and to the way it has been executed. With all of these factors on her side, this just makes this book one cracking read! It was an absolute pleasure to read and review First Date, which I highly recommend.

Hannah is an intelligent lawyer but quite naive about relationships. She is so desperate for a close relationship that she fails to see the warning signs in the men she dates. She starts dating Alex, who at first, is Mr. Charming but then turns out to be possessive and controlling. But Alex was the least of her worries her as the person she should have feared was working right beside her. A great ending.

Unbelievably bad

This is my first date with this author and itβs going to be the last. I donβt know when I last read such a load of frightful rubbish. The book just labours the same boring theme, over and over again, until the end. Every person is two dimensional, there is no character development of any kind, and you go through page after page wondering when Hannah, the dumbest MF who ever lived, is going to see the light.
And for Godβs sake, Alex is not a βlawyerβ heβs a solicitor. And solicitors donβt spend their days in court, thatβs a barrister.
Described as βjaw droppingβ - the only thing jaw dropping about this book is the bad writing.

I don't think I have ever ploughed my way through such rubbish, and I've read some terrible books!
The level of writing reminded me of the sort of story I used to read in Jackie magazine when I was about 12. The main character, Hannah is as flaky as a Greggs sausage roll and has the emotional intelligence of a potato. I sincerely hope that in the real world, someone with her personal attributes (or lack of them) would never make it into a career in social care!
There is clear plagiarism going on. Scenes that are directly taken from films and TV are blatant and as for the 'jaw dropping twist' at the end......I'd say it was more like something from a Scooby Doo cartoon. How I made it to the end of this I will never know. Lockdown has a lot to answer for!

I absolutely gobbled this book down! Beautifully written, kept me enthralled all the way through. A couple of twists I definitely didnβt see coming. And the joy of it is sheβs a new author for me to discover, so looking forward to reading her other books.

I read this in a mammoth overnight session. Couldn't put it down or rather turn off the Kindle. Did not see the end coming - really good twist.
