This book had me at “What if you met The One on his wedding day?” What a great hook this is and one that immediately captured my attention. It was nice to read this heartwarming tale and feel something other than dread with what has been going on in the world at the moment.
The First Time We Met, follows Izzy and Sam and their journey which runs over the course of a fifteen year period. It is a story about love at first sight, how timing is everything and if people are really destined to be together, how the universe can intervene It is an uplifting and a light hearted read and is the perfect escape to get lost in.
The characters of Izzy and Sam have been lovingly and beautifully created and you can’t help but become invested in them. With the story alternating the narration between the two, we get a great insight into each of lives after their first meeting. You just know that they are destined to be together and I was rooting for them throughout.
Jo Lovett is a new author to me and I thoroughly enjoyed her style of storytelling. It is very engaging, fluid and as a debut novel, she has done a really great job. It is well plotted, executed and with a cast of characters that you can relate and resonate with, makes this a very enjoyable read.
The First Time We Met is a gorgeous read that will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy. Jo Lovett has poured her heart and soul into it and she was able to capture this girl’s crime and psychological thriller obsessed heart! It was a pleasure to read and review The First Time We Met, which I recommend.

Izzy doesn't believe in love at first sight, that is until she meets Sam. He waltzes into her life and she just knows. But this happens on his wedding day.
As Izzy continues to contemplate their chance meeting, almost a year later she knows it's time to move on and she finds love herself. As the story continues and years pass, both of their situations change and they cross paths again. But will destiny see them together? You will have to read it and find out:)
This one was such an enjoyable romantic comedy and while it was sad in parts, it was uplifting and the writing was just so delightful. The sprinkle of humour, mixed with some harsh reality that made it more believable, really made this such an enjoyable story.

This book is everything that would usually induce ranting, eye rolling, and irritation in me. It's normal people living normal lives, it's chick lit, it's cliches and schmaltziness and slightly ridiculous coincidences and frustrating miscommunications. It is unlike me to enjoy this book.
I. Freaking. Loved. It.
Reading this was like watching Sleepless in Seattle or Serendipity. You know it's silly and smooshy but dang it, you just want to suspend the disbelief that shrouds your jaded heart for just a few hours, and immerse yourself in the daydream of meeting That Person - the person who feels like home and magic all at once.
This story is comfort food in book form. The kind that feels slightly indulgent but is also really freaking warm and delicious.
I think the thing that made this one different for me was that Izzy and Sam felt so real. I feel like I could bump into Izzy in the street. In fact, I would really love to be Izzy's friend. I love her bright quirky style and her "hot mess mum" nature - I feel like we're kindred spirits. Sam is not perfect but he tries to be a good bloke and loves his kids and his imperfectness is what makes him feel so real. I loved reading about characters in my stage of life.
I gobbled this book up and didn't want to leave these characters behind. I think Izzy and Sam will stay with me a long while.
I personally found the ending a little too much, but if you like a Hollywood-style HEA, you'll find it here.
I received this book as an eARC from Netgalley. All opinions 100% honest and my own.

This book has a great opening and has a really interesting premise. Izzy sees Sam when she is working in a cafe. It seems like love at first sight to her. After an embarrassing incident she follows him from the cafe and asks him out. He replies that he can’t because it’s his wedding day. Izzy can’t stop thinking about him, but years pass, 14 to be exact, and their lives move on. Then they come across each other again. I thought the characterisations were very good and all characters were extremely likeable except for the teenage daughter, but I guess there are teenagers who behave like this.
I found this to be a very good book within this genre and was a great light read. It’s a good one for fans of One Day in December. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC of this novel in exchange for a review.

One of the Best Books of 2020

This book was brilliant. The author is a great story teller. The narrative kept you hooked from start to finish. It was a straight up love story with well developed characters and exceptional dialogue. It was a really great story so well written. I really cannot wait for more by this author. For a debut novel you did it. I read several books a week and this was without exception one of the best that I have read in a long time. It didn't have or need any of the extreme erotica and there were no extremely long descriptions of the surrounding areas.

My favourite book this year
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 November 2020Verified Purchase
I started reading this book with some trepidation because although I don’t know the author, her sister has been a good friend for over 25 years and there was the nagging thought ‘what if I don’t like it?’! I needn’t have worried, because I loved it. I was engrossed from the start and quickly forgot that tenuous link with the author. Yes, it’s a romance, but I would describe it as an intelligent romance, dealing with themes that affect many of us, such as loss, grief and self-worth. It is well written and entertaining, with some flashes of humour, and I struggled to put it down each night to go to sleep. This is probably my favourite book of the year (and I read a lot!).

Good story

Give me a book that follows a him and a her over time and I'm sold. So it was no wonder I liked this too.
I found the characters endearing, it starts with Izzy asking Sam out, except it's his wedding day. Then, as the years go by, they either randomly or purposely meet and their connection develops. Obviously, there will be bumps in the road too - everything you'd expect from the type of story that stretches over years.
The pace of the story was also good, so not much to say. A book I read quickly and would recommend for a light read.

This book is amazing! The writing is really really good. The characters are all believable and the author makes you really care about them. Some parts made me laugh out loud and some parts made me cry. I really enjoyed the romance and all the other aspects of the plot, especially the fact that the children were well-rounded and realistic and the main characters put them first. I loved the email exchanges which rang so true. I heartily recommend this book. I am very much looking forward to reading Jo Lovett's subsequent books - I hope the next one is out soon!

A lovely Christmas read.

It has been quite a while since I have read a book from this genre and I really enjoyed it!
It's a real will they/won't they, spanning at least 10 years.
It reminded me of the film, Serendipity.
My favourite quote:
"Izzy spent a good three minutes trying and failing to match Sam's pun compilation speed."
