So the sizing chart - like the sizing charts for ALL bustiers I've seen - is ridiculous! With that said, I normally wear a size 36F (in Cacique bras), but I also wear size 38DDD in some bras. I have another longline front closing bra in a size 38DD, and while it's a tad large around my ribs, I like it and and have worn it quite a bit, so I may have stretched it out a tad over time. I have an hourglass figure. Anyway, I ordered the same size (40DD) in this bra, and it was HUGE! I reordered a 38D, and while it's a tad large around the waist, I really love this bra so much and am SO glad I have it for my off-the-shoulders summer dresses and blouses!
A word of advice to help you determine your correct band size: You'll need to know your own body type when deciding on the band size for this bra. My torso gets smaller from my underbust down to my waist, so I probably should've bought a 36 rather than a 38. If you have a larger upper tummy or waist than your underbust, make sure you buy a band size that will accommodate the larger measurement. Concerning cup size, if I decide to purchase a 36 band size, I'll get the DD cup. I feel like this manufacturer's cup sizes run larger than the cups of the manufacturer's of my other bras. I would recommend going down at least one size for your first order.
I had to return this bra. I followed other reviewers advise and purchased one size larger band and down one size on the cup. I normally wear a 36DD, so I ordered 38D. The cup size was perfect to take all of the breast tissue. The up one size band worked perfect for the tummy area. I am short 5'2 but wear a long waist size in bathing suits. The cup size was perfect, but on me, like one other reviewer, I had a bunch under my breast. I think this caused my back fat problem, which I normally do not have a problem with. The fabric was quite stiff, but I think laundering would change that. The stiffness could also have caused the back fat problem and wearing and laundering would eliminate that, however, it would not help the bunching under the breast. It was a hard decision whether to take the chance and not return it, but in the end I did not want to risk the money for a item that would not get worn. I purchased at a very good price. The company was excellent to deal with on the order and the return. Would recommend you try and use the formula suggested for a very good fit.
I returned this item mainly because it makes my boobs way pointy! I felt like Madonna! It is also very short and just kinda pushed everything down so it stuck out more towards the bottom. Wasn't impressed.
I bought up a band size and down a cup size as most posters recommended, but i felt like this didn't give nearly enough control in the torso, and the cups were actually a little large. My experience with longline bras is that they are supposed to be pretty darn tight on the ribcage, so maybe I'll try ordering again but with a smaller band size and my regular cup.
This would be perfect except for the boning of the cups. The boning causes the cups to give a pointy "Madonna" appearance, so this cannot be work under a thin dress or shirt, but worked great under my wedding dress. Gave the best full-coverage support in a strapless bra.
I usually take a size 36 DD but everyone said to go a size up as far as the strap size so I bought a 38D. Unfortunately, the cup was too large so I returned it and got a smaller cup size and got a 38C. I didn't receive it yet. Hoping it fits better when it arrives.
