Another GREAT Govinda Resin!

Another great Govinda resin. I burn this stuff daily and love it. I sometimes use charcoal discs but mostly use a potpourri burner that uses a tea light and elevate the tea light a little while the resin rests on a small square of foil. Yeah, I know..you don't want to burn and inhale foil. I don't. Tea lights don't burn that hot. It actually just melts the frankincense until it's black and about to give off the "darker" scent. I just let the foil cool off and scrape the leftovers in the trash and load it up again. This technique doesn't smoke up the house but you can smell the resin nicely throughout the house. My friend says it smells like a cathedral whenever he comes in my home. When I do use a charcoal disc, I'll usually add a little myrrh (Govinda of course) now and again. As for pea size...more like small gravel pea size (think aquarium gravel sold at Petco..maybe smaller) and not green peas you eat size.

In my opinion, this is an outstanding product at a reasonable price. I love the scent, but it is probably an acquired taste. Having spent time in monasteries, I have learned to enjoy the scent of frankincense burned in the thurible along with myrrh. Whenever I burn it at home, it reminds me of my times of private retreat. I burn it during my prayer time each evening.

Hints & Tips: A little goes a long way. Just 3-5 pebbles will emit a strong scent that can easily waft through an entire house in a short time. It requires a good deal of heat to melt the resin. (When thinking of resin, think of hard, dried tree sap that is no longer sticky.) I use small charcoal disks that you can buy on Amazon. I light the charcoal inside a small censer on a metal stand. (Do not leave it unattended and do not burn it in a small closet or where smoke inhalation could become a problem.) After the charcoal is emitting a lot of heat, I drop 3-5 little pebbles of resin onto the burning charcoal.

I love the aroma. Some people mix it with cedar or myrrh, but I enjoy the scent of frankincense by itself.

Wonderful Frankincense

Having grown up Catholic, this definitely reminds me of all of the beautiful ceremonies I grew up with. It's high quality and is also long-lasting.

I recommend dedicating a small coffee grinder to your incense and grinding it down into a powder. I've found it lasts even longer this way, and you can more closely control the burn you get (you can also use the powder to infuse your own essential oils, etc.) Just remember, once ground, the resin becomes hydrophilic, so store it in an air-tight container or it will turn into a brick as it pulls the moisture out of your atmosphere. Also, if you're going to grind it up, freeze it for at least 24-hours before grinding it (freeze the grinder blades along with it, if your model of coffee grinder allows for it). If you don't freeze the resin first, you'll wind up with something the consistency of taffy.

Pea size?

I guess I didn't pay attention to that when I ordered it, was just looking at the reviews and also - well, MAINLY - based my decision based on "country of origin" since that's where I'm from and I was looking for EXACTLY what we use in Ethiopia for coffee ceremonies or church...etc.?? So.... Got my package and was disappointed because they weren't pea-sized but lentil-sized (i.e., smaller?). I was expecting rocks like back home? Then I decided to try it and....the aroma and smell is ON POINT!!! Goes to show size ain't important? I'll definitely reorder the same when I run out (consider it a lifetime membership!) Smells amazing once it's burned off

This is my first time actually buying the resin rather than the incense. I burned it with some quick light charcoal and it really made a lot of smoke, almost more than we could handle but it's a learning process. The scent of the fumes coming right off the resin smells a bit smoky and you don't get the full appreciation of how great this is until you walk away. Don't smell the smoke directly, burn it and then your house will smell like a temple or a Catholic church at Christmas mass.
I only burned a large pinch and it was enough to heavily scent the whole (small) house like Frankinscence. It didn't smell "burnt smoky" once it was done, only incensey. It was an absolutely wonderful experience and all the negative energy felt neutralized and cleared after I was done walking around the house with it. Most of mine aren't 'pea size,' they are more like aquarium gravel. It came double bagged. This bag will last a very long time.

If you are new to resin incense, this is going to be very different from what you are used to in terms of experience and scent. Frankincense is at first a darker, heavier citrus aroma. The next time you light up, you remember the aroma, but then, you start picking up the earthen parts the more you become acquainted. It is a multiple-layer olfactory experience once you learn to pick up the nuances. There is nothing superficial about frankincense.
