I think the best part of this headlamp is that it stays in place but doesn’t give me a headache like the elastic bands often do. And it won’t soak up water and take hours to dry out like the fabric covered headbands. AND the band takes up less room in my pocket.
The front section comes apart and reveals a usb plug made to go directly into a power source. This is a little awkward and the plug has a slight curvature which makes it seem like it won’t fit into a USB port, but it does and it works every time. There is a bank of 4 white LEDs and when charging these LEDs turn from blinking to solid as the battery is recharged up to full power. Once charged, the USB plug goes back into the headlamp and they lock together. I’ve had no problems with it coming apart although I struggle to remember where to press to release the latch and separate them for another recharge.... eventually I fumble around enough to find the right spot. I may put a sharpie mark on the unlatch button. A colored area would be a good improvement for future versions. But it’s hard to find anything to complain about.... I’ve spent many times more on other lamps.....some fell into the water and died immediately.... some corroded and some still work just fine but are relegated to the backup bag.
It takes a few minutes to figure out that one button toggles through the modes and if pressed a little longer is the on/off button..... while the second button is basically a dimmer switch, so you have 3 brightness settings for each lighting mode. But it’s very versatile once you get familiar with the buttons.
The red LED was surprisingly bright vs other brands I have tried....probably at least 10 others. I was able to see river bottom in a couple feet of water with the red lamp on high.
Recharge takes a fairly reasonable amount of time and I can usually run it for 30 minutes on high and still have more than half of the battery available. Much longer at dimmer settings or the red LED.
It's very bright, super light and comfy, but if you need a lot of light for longer than an hour this is NOT the light for you. I was on a night run and this thing started blinking about an hour and ten minutes into my run... With a good hour left in my run. Thankfully I had a backup handheld light or my trail run would have turned into wandering in the dark!
I have purchased 2 of these directly from knog and decided to get one from here for a friend. Well this one just isn't the same quality as the other two and I think it may be a knock off. I would buy it directly from knog if you can
Worth every penny! I bought it for autumn/winter runs in the park before sun-up and it works great for that, fitting under the peak of my cap perfectly. but it earned its worth when i had to change a tire in the dark one night! Fantastic!
