To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

My grandchildren 6 and 9 devoured this book (not literally!) - they were fascinated and couldn't get enough of the facts it provided. Absolutely brilliant book and perfectly pitched. Well done Adam Kay

My 11 year old granddaughter read this in a couple of days. She laughed out loud at bits and enjoyed relating gross body facts to her mum. A good buy.

Brilliant
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2020Verified Purchase
This book informs, educates and entertains - it’s brilliant. And to those people who gave it one star based on the fact that it devotes a short chapter to the reproductive system, I despair. Can I politely suggest that you get back into your time machines and return to the 1850s? And if you’re embarrassed to discuss these things with your kids and choose to describe the reproductive system as ‘trouser and skirt bits’, then you really need to buy this book and let Adam Kay explain it for you. Your future adult kids will thank you for it.

Absolutely brilliant

Saw the author on This Morning and thought I’d come here to check it out. The topics are really good and perfect for my 12 year old. They’re written in a humorous way, and the illustrations are hilarious. Even for an adult.
There is one section on reproduction so be warned. It’s written in a funny way without taking away the seriousness of a topic like that. There is a cartoon drawing of a male and female’s trouser bits ;) but if you’ve got a kid over 8 then they’ll learn stuff like this at school anyway so it’s fine. My 12 year old lad has been home educated for a few years so I’ve only just started teaching him about the birds and the bees and all that embarrassing stuff. Somehow he knew more than me, so it’s time I checked his iPad’s search history I reckon.
On a serious note; it’s a great book in hard back format and I can’t wait to let him learn loads whilst having a good ole chuckle at this.
If the author is reading this review then well done to you and your illustrator for nailing this. It’s a purchase I definitely don’t regret making

Inappropriate for the stated age group
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 October 2020Verified Purchase
This is a really interesting and well written book but I don't think it's suitable for the stated age group (8-12yrs).
Much of it is about bums, poo, bogeys, etc. which my 8yr old thinks is the funniest thing in the world, but there's a section at the back about human reproduction with diagrams of a penis, testes, and a vagina, complete with labels for the labia, clitoris, etc. Useful for me, but not appropriate for my daughter.
If this book could decide what age group it's aimed at, it'd be excellent...as it stands, it's being returned.

I have enjoyed reading these reviews
and I too saw the review on this morning program .Brilliant stuff!
For a long time there has been beliefs if you take in too much Info on the reproductive system too young it would be viewed as inappropriate or somehow alarming. The fact is how you approach it without stigma that's the important thing and yes it can be very funny and an important part of life. This book addresses it all in good humour with facts Great illustrations too my boy loves it.

Warning! Contains much talk of poo, farts and vomit!
I have a 7 year old, and now that I have finished reading Kay's Anatomy, I will let her have it.
I learned a lot, and I am 38.
For example I can remember without even looking that the hippocampus is the memory section of the brain. This is because of Henry Paker's brilliant illustration of a hippo going camping. I also like how the large intestine is always depicted as wearing a beret.
Mr Kay writes so well and where there are more difficult topics such as eating disorders or grief, he approaches them sensitively and encourages children to get help if are struggling.
So buy this book for your kids. Buy it for yourself. Buy it for your Granny.
