I don't know how older women feel about the skimpy, skinny jeans 4 inches below waistband but I find them to be very uncomfortable. These are very comfortable and I am not trying to pull them up all day. I wear a size 10 short.
I am 5'5" weigh 135 pounds. I have skinny legs so the the legs are a little bit roomier than other brands. They are comfortable for anything you want to do. Jeans help me to feel like I am not an "old" lady. Refuse to go to elastic waist!

I was disappointed in the fit of these jeans and the quality of the material. These are not what I'd call straight leg. They are very large in the upper thigh area. They fit looser than my Relaxed Fit pair. It's kind of funny that they advertise them as "slimming" when they do just the opposite. Mine are a size 10. I don't know if other sizes have the same problem.

Also, the material is thinner than most jeans. In fact, I double-checked the label because I couldn't believe they were Lee's.
