I hesitated to buy the regular length for fear of shrinkage so I read other reviews and the Q&A looking for helpful info. Whoever said they don’t shrink (and that was most of the reviews I read) must have bought some different pants because I washed them on cold, dried on extra low just once, and they are now “high waters. Inconveniently, I will be returning them.
Before washing, they were just barely the right length; I have a true 31” inseam. After washing, the inseam was 29.5” which is too short for my legs. I’m 5’6” tall, pear body type, weigh between 155-160 lbs, and I bought size 10.
Aside from the shrinking length, the fabric is light and soft and fit was good everywhere else. No back of the waist gap like those Gloria Vanderbilt jeans that also run short in the legs but additionally tight in the thighs (those pants are for short, thinner-thighed apples). I didn’t experience a lint problem as many others mentioned, but I ordered the parchment color, so light colored lint wouldn’t have been noticeable anyway. They did wrinkle a little but it’s not a dealbreaker.
I ordered another pair of these pants in size 10 long, hopefully they will work out better. If the shrinkage is a similar loss of 1.5” the result after washing should be an agreeable 31.5” inseam.
For now I’ll say-if you’re 5’4” or taller, and like your pants at an average length after washing and drying, go with the longer length. If you’re a little above average height and like walking through puddles, however, the regular length should suit you just fine.
I have purchased these Lee slacks in several colors, size 10, in the past few months. I recently purchased the same slacks in a soft beige. They are not the same quality. After laundering twice, they stay wrinkled and must be pressed. The material is not the same soft quality fabric. Disappointed.
I've worn these for years. Love them. Just had to make sure I get the 98% cotton ones, the others are horrible. My only problem is with quality control--some seem as though the legs are cut off the grain, meaning they will twist as you wear them. As a sewer, I know that this means they didn't set the pattern on the fabric correctly. I guess you get what you pay for, as these are economical.
I use to buy these pants in the parchment color all the time. They use to be made with a different fabric. A cotton fabric that breathed. They were wonderful and lasted a long time. Now they are using some sort of fabric that appears to have a filmy coating on the fabric. It does not breath. So after about 5 washings they are not fresh enough and have to be discarded.
I had to buy 'khaki' for work. These are comfortable but I noticed them looking baggy but the end of day. I ordered a 10 medium and I'm 5'5, 150 lbs. They were comfortable on the waist and that's important. They were just a little too roomy in the legs and a tad too long. I will probably order some more as they are priced ok and I do need them for work.
Unlike the Indigo Rinse jeans I bought and love, these pants (Flax) and the Parchment color came immediately out of the dryer wrinkled. Certainly not something to wear without ironing. Really disappointed and won't risk purchasing any other colors that may have the same problem.
