There's nothing really that revolutionary here. The pre-Disney Old Republic era has been reincarnated as the High Republic. It was always my favourite era of Star Wars, and it's uplifting to return to a place where the Jedi are plentiful rather than a hunted species. But the book tries to read like a Star Wars movie, with frequent cuts between characters in different places and non stop action that doesn't really give itself any room to breathe. The prose is kind of bland too, sadly, with plenty of cliches and even moments of pain and shock for the characters not really having an impact. The antagonists being named "the Nihil", a Latin-root word in a galaxy where Latin didn't exist, was particularly cringe.
All that said, a couple of the characters were nice to spend time with.
