5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and utilitarian.
By Joshua on 22 July 2020
I bought this backpack to replace a DSLR shoulder bag that was limiting what I could bring with me. As per the pictures, I can how bring my Canon 90D, three lenses (one on the camera), a shotgun mic, speedlite, a DJI Mavic Pro drone and controller, a video LED lamp, a bunch of batteries, a GoPro, a 15.6" laptop, a USB battery bank, flash hoods, etc. Finding an optimal setup (with the velcro dividers, etc) did take around an hour, but I haven't had to make many changes since. The downside is that because I have everything setup how I like, I don't want to tear it down and use this bag for anything other than camera gear (having the dividers attached to a removable cube would be an option, but it'd also reduce the available volume in the bag).

So far I've taken this backpack camping (full of camera gear) and I've also gone on a one-day mini-adventure to an island where I hiked about 10km up a hill; with some camera gear removed (fewer batteries, no tripod or laptop), but still fairly packed. While I need to buy better shoes for hiking, this backpack was quite comfortable, with no discomfort in my shoulders, back or waist (from the detachable waist belt).

There are aspects of the bag I'd improve if I was in charge of designing it, but they're fairly minor. For example, the internal compartment zippers work well, but the little zipper-pull handles (which resemble the ends of shoelaces) aren't great for gripping - the external zipper-pulls (which you'll be using far more often) are significantly better however. The dividers can also be a bit difficult to get perfect, simply because you generally don't want to velcro them to the inside of the side-access doors (which make up roughly the bottom half of the side walls), and so that leaves you with the front wall, a little bit of the upper side walls, and the bottom, requiring you to get creative if you want to divide the sections accessible from the side (like I did in my pictures). Ultimately however, I'm not sure what Lowepro could do about that, other than either removing the ability to unzip the rear (one of the best features of the bag), or inventing some kind of new mechanical divider / shelving system. Either way, the dividers still work well enough for me.

Overall the bag is also built very durably (I expect to still be using it 10 years from now), comes with a good number of accessories (more dividers than I knew what to do with, also a water bottle pouch for bottles up to roughly 10cm (4 inches) in diameter (a 1.5L [50oz] bottle fit snugly), a rectangular pouch (that can attach externally for fit internally), and a little soft nylon bag (I use it and the rectangular pouch to organise charged vs expended batteries). The built-in rain cover is also done quite well; you never notice it at the bottom of the bag until you look for it, and because the rain cover is permanently attached at one end, you can pull it out and over the bag fairly quickly without having to worry about orientation, etc.

While this is subjective, I originally was a little apprehensive about the bag's 'tacticool' aesthetics, but it's only grown on me since getting it, as it's a rather clean-looking bag and the webbing blends in a little due to the black-on-black. As a 6ft, ~90kg guy, the bag is a nice size as well; while it's obviously not small, it matches my silhouette well and doesn't rise above your shoulders, so it doesn't look like a bulky hiking backpack.

Overall, it's close enough to perfect for me to give it a 5/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW II Pro
By Peter Mavridis on 7 June 2019
To begin with, there seems to be some confusion about which bag you will get. If you order the ProTactic you will get the LowePro ProTactic 450 AW II bag. The pictures displayed for sale are of the older model but version 2 is sent out.

As for the bag I wish I had bought this one first before any other I have had. It fits everything I have and is very comfortable on the back. Comes with plenty of dividers (I don't use all of them at the moment) that can be set out just as you want them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eigentlich ein sehr guter Fotorucksack, aber auch mit Vorsicht zu tragen
Reviewed in Germany on 15 May 2019

Purchased the 350 ProTactical AW II. Comes with bottle holder, side pouch, tripod straps and plenty of Velcro compartments. I spent a lot of time researching to find out if the sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens. There were different opinions. The lens fits in fine with plenty of room for other items (hood reversed) Excellent quality and durability. Comfy fit. I removed the belt as not needed by me.
