I was thrilled to see that the wonderful Penelope Featherington would finally be able to bring Colin Bridgerton to his knees and show him just how amazing she is!! I enjoy a good friends to lovers trope and this one was just fantastic. And since I am a big fan of the underdog - I really enjoyed seeing Penelope grow and become the strong, amazing woman that we all knew she could be.

Frumpy wallflower attracts ton charmer

Every minute of 'Romancing etc' is engaging. It’s the story of a frumpy wallflower who falls for a popular man. It shows good and bad family dynamics. The heroine’s mum is a horror show but the neighbouring Bridgertons give her a loving second 'family'. The author also tackles the very issue of jealousy when your spouse succeeds and you don't. A fun plot keeps everything moving along and the mystery of Lady Whistledown is revealed...finally!!.

I like this book but it's not my favourite in the wonderful Bridgerton series. However it's still excellent. I like that it’s emotionally truthful while delivering a great romance. The main characters have a solid friendship before having the hots for each other, and this makes a good book even more satisfying.

Okay, so I think this might be my new Bridgerton favourite, so far!
Colin, the third Bridgerton sibling is the centre of this particular novel, but, actually, he isn't.
The central character, the one I was rooting for, especially since I had come to love her in the last three books, Penelope Featherington, and her story, stole the show!
Penelope has spent most of her life being shuffled around behind her two older sisters, slightly plump, with that unfashionable red hair, she spends her seasons being dressed in inappropriately coloured clothing, making her the laughing stock of the 'Ton.
Now at the ripe old age of eight and twenty, she is considered one of the spinsters, as her older sisters have secured their husbands, and her younger, more conventionally attractive sister is now the one in the eyes of the suitors.
She's quite happy to be in the background. A true wallflower. At least no one else will notice her unrequited love...
Colin, meanwhile, a childhood friend of Penelope, one of the Bridgerton crew, and all-round 'nice' guy, finds himself developing feelings for her.
Oh, it was great how they got their happily ever after, and there was another HUGE reveal within this book!
Such fun! I would have finished it sooner if it wasn't for this dang Lockdown, and work commitments!
Can't wait... bring it on Book 5!

The fourth Bridgerton book is an absolute delight as we finally see the lovely Penelope Featherington - who has popped up in all the previous books as a bit of a wallflower, but we soon discover a wallflower with attitude - noticed by the man she has loved for, like, ever.... Colin Bridgerton. This is a friends-to-lovers story to absolutely melt your heart. Colin has been a charming, witty rake in the previous books, the third brother who - behind that charming facade - struggles with his place in life. As a result, he's spent years travelling around the globe to basically avoid confronting the pointlessness - as he see it - of his existence. It was really sweet to see Penelope finally snare Colin - when he FINALLY figures out that the woman he has always considered a trusted friend is actually much more than that. In so doing, Colin also makes Penelope realise how truly fabulous she is. So there's a little bit of the ugly duckling-swan story going on there, too. The ending to this book is particularly fabulous - and chaotic - too as the identity of Mrs Whistledown - the secret society gossip whose wry observations have introduced the other books - is finally revealed.

This is part of a series of books about a family of eight children living in elegant Georgian society.

Colin is the third brother and as in all the other books it follows his progress in finding a wife.
These books are well written and may be read as stand alone stories, but it is better if the series is read from the start as you get to know the family, their position in society and friendships. Their mother has one aim in life to see all of her children married...
These books have been adapted and made into a Netflix series. Don’t expect a faithful adaptation, either read these books or see Netflix, but don’t do them together, or you may find it frustrating!!

Such a let down

I have never been more let down by a book in my life.

I picked up this series after seeing the television series and being intrigued by the Colin/Penelope romance, I waded through the previous books and was hopefull this would live up to it's promise, reader, it does not.

Not only does Colin lose all personality and mischief, he becomes as boorish and "alpha" as every other male lead of the series.
"The big reveal" was ridiculous, we never see the repercussions of being Lady Whistledown and there was simply so much that could have been done with this story line. The author chose the most boring line imaginable.
So much could have been done with Penelope too, why does she have to lose a stone to be marriage worthy ? She was perhaps the most interesting character and her whole personality was reduced to nothing. We don't really know why Penelope decides to print her work and we never find out what she felt about her succes or about her "retirement". It's brushed over so quickly, I was left disapointed and I doubt I will read the rest of the series.

As always the writing is mediocre at best with the dialogue being especially clunky, disjointed and silly, I can usually get past that if the story and characters are good enough. In this case, they weren't.

I think my expectations were too high going into this book. I adored Colin in the previous books, but once we get his story it makes me really dislike him. He's an angry, jealous man who controls Penelope with threats and abuse. I have no idea why she has loved him for so long because I didn't like him. Also, can we talk about the Fatherington family. Worst family ever! Poor Penelope. I loved her, but the rest of this book was one massive disappointment.
