Got this as a replacement kettle, cost effective for size and light up feature. Have had this now for many months, it is used daily for cups of tea and boiling water as required, and I have had no issues with it so far. The spout is easy to pour from so no drips, and the lid flips open/attached, so allows for quick and easy fill. Lovely item, sits on a swivel base so can point to left or right to fit in with your kitchen requirements. A lovely item, and I would personally buy it again. Large capacity.
I know sometimes you get one which is bad in a batch. This is my second Russel hobs that has not lasted long ( the other one a more respectable 2 years). this one has lasted 10 months and the on off switch flashed and is now broken. I will try to get in touch with the company via Amazon so they might consider this is not long enough and replace it. If they do I will write on here a very positive review as I did like the kettle and it is stylish and seemed sturdy. Maybe just a one off fault.
Aside from the very important factor that this kettle produces boiled water that tastes absolutely vile, no matter what you do to clean it or how many times you boil it, the product is flimsy and wobbles around when boiling. It feels very very cheap, looks very very cheap and is very very poor!
We did all the things you are supposed to do with a new kettle. We boiled it up 300 times ( fresh water every time) . Let it soak in Bi carb etc. , did a rain dance and prayed to the kettle gods but even so, everything tasted of rotten elastic bands. For fear of suffering terrible side effects from heated plastics and requiring plastic surgery we returned the thing and bought a stainless steel job at £2.00 more. No problems at all!
Boiling could be faster but i am used to a rapid boil so can't really complain. Plastic for switch, spout and filter seem cheap but again for a cheap quick purchase as our previous kettle broke it will do. Actually we have not yet replaced with a more expensive model as this kettle doesn't seem to have the limescale build up our previous ones have suffered from....which is a plus that far outweighs the cheaper build quality
I did read the reviews warning of the plastic taste, which I did taste slightly on the first few boils, but after the a few boils is no problem at all. The filling is very easy and due to the plastic sides the kettle is not that heavy. The pouring is the best I ever had very fast and precise. Does not seem to be any slower to boil or more noisy than any of my previous kettles. Very good buy for the price.
Excellent while it worked in every way. It just stopped heating water after less than a month. The light came on but that's all. A real shame as it was excellent in every way up to that point. I tried calling Russell Hobbs on the number that Amazon stated but they could not deal with it as my order number was Amazon's and not theirs. Not sure what kettle to buy now as we have tried a few ranging from this (£20) lasting 4 weeks to the Sage kettle (around £70 IIRC) which lasted barely a year, as well as a £35 Russell Hobbs in between (which lasted less than a year). It's not like we abuse our kettles - they get well used (maybe 6 or 7 times a day) but our kettles used to last years...
Bought this as an emergency purchase when our old kettle died, excellent offer price. This kettle has a bigger capacity without being much bigger than our original, so doesn't take up to much space. It boils really fast, 2-3 mins max when full and the blue light is a very nice touch. Would definitely recommend!
