When dry, both had equal water repelling properties: the water beaded up and rolled off with no saturation except in the area between and around the two test areas. The circular spots became highly visible against the surrounding wet areas. I then poured coffee over each. I was able to blot up 90% of the coffee from each, but small stains remained. This UV version had slightly more staining, but that could have been a factor of how much coffee or the sludge content. I took soap and water to both -- and the waterproof properties were immediately negated. This means that the product needs to be reapplied after cleaning, even after spot cleaning, to return it to its previous water resistant beginning. The Scotchgard should be reapplied as soon as beading starts to falter or at the beginning of each season.
In my test, this UV type made the natural-color fabric slightly darker and was therefore more visible when dry. Obviously, if an entire cushion were treated, there would be nothing to compare to -- it would still look close to the original color. Still, because of this, I recommend using this only for applications where color fading would be the most obvious: any dark color, particularly reds. I'm going to use the Heavy Water Shield on my light cushions and this UV protectorant elsewhere.
