The artwork itself is very beautiful, the only reason I gave any stars. I like the treasure hunt and whole concept of the book BUT: The copy I received is not as shown or described.
**Please refer to photos
"......in an inky black-and-white wonderland." NOT black ink on white paper. This whole book is made with yellow/sepia? toned paper. This paper totally changes the colour outcome for all the colour mediums I use; regular, watercolour and metallic coloured pencils, and gel pens....
The book is fully bound and not all pages lie flat so that double spread images are hard to complete. Individual pages can't easily be removed. I have another book like this and ended up removing all the bindings so I could work the pages comfortably.
I would have returned it but that is an upfront cost I can't afford so will use it as best I can.
** Photos were taken against a white sheet. The last photo shows a comparison between the Secret Garden and my "old" book Tropical Wonderland (same style different author).

Excellent paper quality and just the right size.
The illustrations are adorable (almost too beautiful to colour them) with lil fun activities to find the hidden treasure -hence the name ;though some are down right visible.
Money well spent and let the colouring begin !

Really pretty and loving it so far. I’m just not sure why the markers are showing up on the other side of the page?

It meets my expectations, the designs are really complex and interesting, I LOVE IT! Tho the pages seem a bit yellow-ish instead of pure white.

I expected these pages to be white. They are a cream colour which means your pens don't come out as bright as expected. But lovely book!

Disgusting pukey green/grey/yellowish THINNER paper than previously
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2017Verified Purchase
Compared to my previously bought book from 2015, these 2 copies I ordered recently have arrived and I'm sending them right back. I'm appalled at the poor quality. Standing the books side by side, the current ones are thinner than my 2015 copy. The cover is not as stiff, the new ones bend easily. The paper in the new copies is a vile pukey dirty grey/green/yellow - unlike the cream coloured thick paper in the 2015 book. The new books are printed in the Netherlands, but my book from 2015 was printed in Italy.
How anyone can be happy with these newer printed books I'll never know. It's shameful and as these were gifts I would be embarrassed to give them to anyone. I'll try once more to order, but with a different supplier (these were from amazon). If the same thing happens, I'll never buy this book again.

Love these colouring books.

I have obviously "discovered" Johanna Basford much later than everyone else! I love these beautiful books. Mine are on creamy, expensive paper. (I do not agree with reviewers who complain about yellow paper, it is definitely creamy and I prefer it to brilliant white. The paper is thick and good quality). The designs are lovely. She has taken a simple idea and had the skill to develop it to produce this gorgeous art. I have bought 3 books for myself and 3 to (reluctantly) give as presents. I will no doubt collect them all for myself eventually. Johanna demonstrates on youtube and anyone can subscribe to her emails. She also has a course of tutorials which are now free. Wonderful stuff.

Pretty pictures and hours of entertainment, very pleased with my copy.

I caught the colouring habit and ordered the secret garden after watching reviews on you tube, the pictures are pretty and intricate and i have spent many hours working on only a handful of pictures so far. The paper is thicker than any of my other books but i have not used pens on it yet. My front cover did arrive with a score on it - it had obviously been marked by a sharp implement when opening the package at the warehouse, it was not enough for me to return it though, I couldn't wait to get started on it.

Just brilliant .

I've just bought this book again as I loved it so much I don't mind starting all over again, after my daughter 32yrs old managed to spill a whole pot of tea over it while having a look at all my hard work. The motives are great as is the detailing and designs. The added bonuses of the tresure hunt and the story are just fantastic. A very real adult colouring book, where the individual motives can be framed and hung up for decoration in the knowledge that no two in the world will ever be the same. So I'll finish how I started looking forward to starting all over again. I highly recommend the book, the author and the company who supplied the means for such enjoyment. Don't wait get shopping 🛒.

I love the Johanna Basford books-I have 3 of them and theyre all beautifully put together with designs to suit everyone, theyre the ones I would always go for befor buying any others as I think the quality is excellent. The paper is really great with no bleed through when using fibre pens and theyre a good size too-plenty of designs to choose from.Im not one of those people whos disciplined enough to start at the beginning and gradually work my way through the book-I flit from page to page finding one Id like to work on ,some are in various stages of completion but its fun.By the way Im a 61 year old woman and if anyone had told me a while back that Id be using colouring books Id have laughed, but its very addictive and a lovely way to unwind with some quiet time-would highly recommend this lady's books, theyre gorgeous :)
