Cotman Water Colours are a range of water colours that are made to our normal high quality standards but costs are kept to an economical level by replacing some of the more costly pigments with less expensive alternatives.
This popular pocket-sized plastic box features an integral mixing palette in the lid and contains: one Pocket brush & 12 Cotman Water Colour half pans: Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red Pale Hue, Crimson Alizarin, Ultramarine, Intense Blue, Emerald Green, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, China White. Actual contents may vary.

PigmentsCosts are kept to an economical level by replacing some of the more costly pigments with less expensive alternatives. Pigments derive from a number of sources: Some are natural products, notably the earths, e.g. umbers, ochres; others come from metal compounds and are sometimes termed 'traditional' or 'genuine', e.g. ultramarine. The distillation of petroleum yields an ever widening range of organic pigments which are often termed as 'modern'. Many of the pigments used in Cotman are organic. |
Colour RangeThe Cotman Water Colour range has a more uniform consistency than the Professional Water Colour range and this benefits beginners as there is less to learn about each individual pigment. The Cotman Water Colour range also relates to the Winsor & Newton Professional Water Colour range, e.g. Burnt Sienna in both ranges has the same hue. This enables artists to use colours from both ranges with minimal adjustment to their technique. |
White in the RangeTraditionally the white of the paper provides the brilliance to water colour and can be used as highlights. However, some artists utilize Chinese White for highlights at the end of their painting or in dulling some colour mixtures down. |

Ordered the 12 half pans to use when I am on holiday/ on the move. I read reviews that it was compact but I had no idea just how small it was (pleasantly surprised)– it is the same size as my iPhone 6 (pictured for your reference). The palette doesn't come with black, which is a bit strange but not a deal breaker for a beginner like me. It also comes with a small brush which is useful.

I love these paints! they're so bright! They were tinier than I expected but the quality is so great that I was not bothered. I use them so much now, I'm already running out haha. They're so easy for me to carry around to university or to the park, anywhere. This set has all the basic colours you need. Though I was a bit disappointed that there was only 1 red, and it wasn't very opaque, so it ran out way before any of my other colours as I had to use so much of it. I'm thinking I may get a bigger set with more colours my next purchase. But I do recommend starting with this size if you want to just try out the paints first.

Questi colori sono decisamente buoni, sicuramente non di livello professionale per chi è un vero "purista" dell'acquerello, ma è una linea comunque di qualità per chi deve studiare, per chi comincia e non vuole accontentarsi dei classici acquerelli per bambini. Sono ottimi se associati ad una buona carta e a dei buoni pennelli.
La scatolina è piccola, quando la vedi arrivare in effetti fa strano… ma è ovvio dato che si tratta di una versione portatile e io adesso che la sto usando la trovo comoda, compatta ed essenziale. La gamma dei colori per quel che ne devo fare io è perfetta, mescolando si ottengono tante diverse soluzioni. Non trovo sbagliata la scelta di non mettere il nero, io personalmente nell'acquerello non lo uso puro come colore, quindi mi sta bene che non ci sia. Il bianco invece lo uso poco…
La resa dei colori è ottima, giusta trasparenza, ma anche brillantezza. Il pennellino in dotazione è perfetto per i lavori di fino.
Unica piccola pecca è che i singoli godet sono rimovibili, il che è ovviamente una scelta intelligente perché così si possono sostituire una volta esauriti, ma a volte quando apro la scatolina mi rimangono attaccati al coperchio! Pazienza, basta farli asciugare bene prima di chiudere tutto.
Nel complesso è un acquisto che rifarei al 100 per 100!

Apesar de ainda não entender todo esse universo da aquarela, as tintas são de ótima qualidade e permitem uma infinidade de criações e mistura para as pinturas. Tenho me divertido em pintar com elas. Não encontrei problemas e tenho tido uma experiência satisfatória com os resultados. Todas as cores são de grande tonalidade, deixando seu trabalho pronto para ser apreciado.
