Strange as it may sound, I've never been particularly curious about America until I recently finished The Twilight Saga (!!!) which made me want to learn more about the country. Being a Fry fan, I thought this comprehensive-sounding book would do the trick. It's true, like one reviewer said, that you occasionally wish there was more, but on the other hand it does only cover a drive-through each state and a stop-over here and there, so you get to see and feel just what Fry saw and felt, plus discover interesting facts about many states to boot. I enjoyed it very much and finished it with an appreciation not only for the literary ride through each state, but being able to share with Fry the wonder at how much this vast, varied and vibrant country has contributed to the world.

Nice book, well written. It is so interesting that I will try and get the DVD's or watch any repeats of the show.
I did not know that Stephen Fry was so interesting and wrote so well.

There are some nice pictures with each chapter.

Stephen Fry in America What to say? We've come to expect excellence and best effort from Mr. Fry in all his endevours, and with this book (and DVD), one isn't disappointed. As his disclaimer stipulates, this is merely an overview of one man's journey through the 50 states in the US. He writes with humour and wit (but then?), but also with a growing appreciation of the subject at hand. I understand this journey was done in 8 months time,which is amazing, as this is a massive project. If you're interested in an introduction of American people and the country they live in - and Stephen makes it personal - then I would heartily recommend giving this a read (view the DVD as well!).
