The stainless infuser twists off (it does not pull off) and you can use loose tea or a tea bag in the infuser. The infuser twists back on. You can remove the infuser and tea at anytime to stop it over brewing.
The tea stays hot for around 6 hours, then it is too cold for my taste. I often pour a cup of tea and then refill with hot water – if the tea is left in the strainer it will continue to draw. Using this technique I find the tea bags do a good job and you do not over-brew the tea (that only happens with stronger tea varieties). Boil the kettle once and you can have 3 hot cups of tea over the next 5-6 hours, when you want it.
Over time the colour scratches off the bottom of the flask through normal wear and tear. I wanted to take my flask on road trips and was concerned about damage. I bought a neoprene cover to minimise wear and tear and give more insulation. My neoprene cover is 17cm high, 7cm wide, it works well (20cm high cover would go over the lid). Now it can go on road trips without scratching off all the colour. Saves you electricity costs, as kettles use a lot of power.
The flask can be used for tea and coffee.
The Black. Gold, Acqua (that is how they market it) use a softer paint than the metallic colours of Rose Gold, Metallic Red and Metallic Charcoal. The metallic paints cost $7 more.
The Blue flask uses the softer paint, but has a cup attached to the bottom of the flask – the only one that does. It costs an extra $9.
I have given the flask as gift to others and they have really enjoyed them. I have had to explain to few how to properly use it, so I was not alone on this point.
You can just pop tea bags into the infuser and get the same result but having bought loose lead stuff, I found you have to be fairly sparing and it takes some getting used to, as I was putting in far too much (less than 1/4 full, but expanded to fill the whole infuser basket). But this meant I was able to keep adding hot water and get multiple flasks of tea out of the one lot I put in.
I'd thoroughly recommend and bought this as a present after buying one for myself.
