Short story released as standalone book for the first time.

The Mist can be found in Skeleton Crew, the first and longest story of that short story collection.
Also a film.
It builds the suspense well to a climax.
Well developed characters and observations.
Published as a stand alone short story in September 2021 as part of Hodder's re-issue of King's backlist of novels.
Paperback is 181 pages long.
No illustrations within.

Love the book, though my cover is slightly misprinted.

I read this book over the course of 3 or 4 nights and really loved the story. Stephen King has his reputation for a reason - he is a class writer, and his storytelling and ability to create an atmosphere is second to none. Being a novella, you're launched straight into the story and it grips you from the outset.
Unfortunately when my book arrived there was a slight bit of damage to the edges of the pages and also the back cover is misprinted and blurry. At first I wasn't sure whether this was a play on the "mist", but I'm pretty sure it isn't. (Lol)

Having watched the film years ago, I felt it was time I should read the book. Quite a quick read but very descriptive. My only gripe is the ending, it felt like a bit of a cop out, but I'd totally recommend.

so was glad to come across an excellent used copy from Amazon

A strange fog/mist starts to come down over a small town in Maine after a severe summer storm and the the story then follows David and his 5 year old son Billy, who travel into town after the storm abates to pick up some much needed supplies. A neighbour goes with them, but David's wife Stephanie decides to stay at home. The trio become trapped in the local supermarket as the mist starts to unveil the horrors it contains within.
I thought I had read all of Stephen King's books, but must have missed this one (or should I say mist this one!), so was glad to come across an excellent used copy from Amazon. This was wonderful writing from the inimitable (although many try) Mr King. He has such a beautiful and heartbreaking way of writing about ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances in this genre. Loved it!
