2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, full of errors and far too many humble brags!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2020
I’ve followed Mrs Hinch on Instagram for two years and I quite like her, hence why I bought her book. To begin with, the introduction is a little tedious but then I really enjoyed the chapter about her childhood. After that, I’m afraid the book goes downhill rapidly.
I get the impression the writing of this book was rushed. Grammatical errors aside, the general back and forth between “I can’t believe I’ve got to where I am” and “I don’t consider myself famous” interspersed with “being recognisable is awful and I’m just a normal person” is monotonous.
To be clear, the chapter about online bullying is very sad and Sophie has my sympathy. However, I can’t help but think if she struggles with the volume of abuse that she claims, why not call it a day with social media? Look at Peter Kay. He’s famous and keeps himself to himself.
Ultimately, the book is very difficult to plough through because of its repetitive nature, poorly constructed sentences and humble brags.
It wasn’t worth the money in all honesty and I’ve since dropped it at a charity shop, but I wish Sophie the best of luck with her future. She’s not a bad girl, but certainly not a writer.
