The forces of evil are threatening to overrun Hogwarts castle in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, a cooperative deck-building game, and it's up to four students to ensure the safety of the school by defeating villains and consolidating their defenses. In the game, players take on the role of a Hogwarts student: Harry, Ron, Hermione or Neville, each with their own personal deck of cards that's used to acquire resources.
By gaining influence, players add more cards to their deck in the form of iconic characters, spells, and magical items. Other cards allow them to regain health or fight against villains, keeping them from gaining power. The villains set back players with their attacks and Dark Arts. Only by working together will players be able to defeat all of the villains, securing the castle from the forces of evil.

If you love Harry Potter you’ll love this.
This starts when you open the box. Great art work and fantastically themed.
I recommend stating with story one box. Don’t be tempted as a sessioned gamer to go straight in at game 3. This help build up how the mechanics work and enables none deck builder players to get on to the way to play.
Don’t be fooled by the Battle for Hogwarts title, it’s all about the story from the beginning.
I love the fact it is a co-op game so all the team fight the villains. Great family vibe, and good to strategise together.
Love the fact that each character is designed to have a different role within the team.
Love the pacing of each individual game (could be 2-3 hours) and the whole game, which is spread over 7 increasingly difficult stages.
Love the way the complexity slowly build but isn't too much.
Love the phyical quality of the cards/pieces etc.
Love the 'generosity'-so many spells, monsters etc.
If in doubt, buy it. I would suggest ages 8 and above if they have a good concentration span.
It's great for fans of the magical world, we got really absorbed by it, and it's nice to play a game collaboratively and talk through strategy each turn.
The longevity is great, with 7 full rounds, and give a bit of a break could be played again.
The only slight negatives are the instructions are ambiguous in many areas, I recommend watching a gameplay video, there are many available.
Ultimately it was quite easy, with some intense moments of peril but we didn't lose once.
The suggested increase in difficulty level isnt that great, we came up with several options but the sharing would include spoilers so won't. Once you understand the game you can make your own.
Really good fun. The more you play, the more you recognise what impact your strategic decisions are having, so you can fine tune your plan to try to do better each time.
