So many choices! With 72 pencils and a good number of options per color, for instance, 8 shades of green and 10 blue, it can be a little overwhelming when looking to see where to start. But that's one of the great things about this set of 72 pencils, the choices make for less work blending later on once the process of selecting a color is finished.

The pencils themselves are well made and finished but I find that using them is difficult. I don't know exactly what hardness they are but if I compared them to a standard HB pencil these are probably 4 times as hard. This means that I need to press very hard to get any color transferred to the paper. This means that I either have to press hard and possibly tear the paper or spend a lot of time rubbing them back and forth to get good coverage.
► Blending the colors required a little practice before trying it on something I wanted to keep. I'm glad I did do a test because the leads are harder it requires a different amount of water on the brush than we're used to in order to get them softened up and flowing.

When they arrived there was no odor, in fact, this is odd considering the materials used never mind the case they come in. Normally I find that these cases have an odor.

The two included fine brushes are an ok start but I find the bristles are a little too coarse to really get a nice blend of colors. I used some finer ones we have and they worked much better. The pencil sharpener is fine, it's the standard ten-cent dollar store variety item.

I find the material used on the case to be very good. The kind of thing that will last for years.

Overall this is a decent starter kit but using the pencils takes a little getting used to as the leads are harder than any others we've used.

A very wide selection of colored pencils. These pencils can be dried but also pigment is water soluble to obtain different effects. The leads are encased in wood and therefore pencil sharpener is included. There are two very small headed thin brushes that can be used for watercoloring but found them almost useless. Set comes in a rolling fabric bag with a wraparound strap, both which had cheap quality material. The fabric bag does have elastic straps to hold all the pencils, two brushes and the sharpener to keep it all organized. Two of the wood pencils however arrived broken, about 2 inches from the top and were the ones at outer end of the roll ; still usable but was disappointing. Roll did not give them enough protection. The pencils were not the most comfortable to hold especially for longer periods and found that some of the colored leads broke off too easily if pressed too hard especially when compared to other watercoloring pencils I have used. These seem to be better for dry coloring than for watercoloring since some of the pigments did not lend to blending that well. For what comes with the set, it is Ok especially for occasional usage and for beginners.

I took two whole stars off for the biggest problem I had with these pencils, which is they arrived absolutely stinky. The culprit seemed to be the case, because after I tossed it, the smell went away. There's no delicate way to put this, but it smelled like cow manure. The worst part is that everything else I received in the same box also smelled bad! Since no-one else had that issue, I assume it was a Quality Control or warehouse issue, but I still had to mark it down.

The pencils themselves worked very nicely. I still believe that Watercolour Pencils are best for using as Watercolour Pencils. As regular pencils, they don't do as well. While I found they have a nice pigment, they are not as highly pigmented as professional (and much more expensive pencils), I found they have a more traditional 'dreamy' watercolour feel.

It's a great range of colours and perfect for those who want to try Watercolour Pencils for the first time or just need lots of colours! If it wasn't for the stinky case, I'd be pretty happy with them. The brushes were pretty rubbish, but I had my own and I also used my own sharpener.

Note: The artwork I have created here was made using only the Watercolour Pencils with the exception of the inked outlines.

Interesting concept, using paint to draw with, then taking a wet brush to blend and do other effects. Looks neat. A few things you should know:
1. While the case may look nifty, it's not very practical. Stuff falls out far too easily.
2. This gave off a pretty nasty chemical smell. This is going to have to go air out in isolation until the stink is gone.
