Let Alexa help you around the house

The laundry basket is piling up, the dishwasher needs emptying and dinner still needs to be made, but you have no idea what to make. I know how things can be. Sometimes life gets in the way of all the things you need to get done around the house.

But that’s where I come in!

I can help keep things around your home on track, from setting weekly reminders to take out the rubbish, to reminding you to check on your dinner in the oven.

Here are a few ways I can give you a helping hand around the home.

Set timers, alarms, and reminders

Everyone getting a bit restless? I’ve got you covered! Give these a go:

Set multiple timers to help with cooking – “Alexa, set an 8-minute pasta timer” while you also have the ragu on simmer, “Alexa, set a ragu timer for 15 minutes”.

Set recurring alarms – “Alexa, set a weekday alarm to walk the dog".

And see what alarms you have set up by asking “Alexa, show me my alarms”.

Or use reminders to help the house run smoothly– “Alexa, remind me to take the washing off the line before the rain hits”.

You can also set recurring reminders like “Alexa, remind me to pay the bills on 15th of every month”.

Home and life admin

I’ve also got a range of Skills that can help you easily keep on top of your everyday home and life tasks.

AGL - Using the AGL skill, you can set an energy alert to track your usage, pay bills, or get energy-saving tips. Just ask “Alexa, ask AGL to pay my electricity bill”.

Westpac Banking - Bank effortlessly, using your voice with the Westpac Banking Skill. Check your account balances, recent transactions, and reward points status. “Alexa, ask Westpac what's the balance of my credit card?”.

The Dog Feeder – I can help you make sure no one forgets to feed the dog using The Dog Feeder Skill. Just ask “Alexa, ask the dog if we fed her?”.

Add grocery items to your shopping list

“Alexa, add pumpkin, and chicken stock to my shopping list”.

No idea what to cook for dinner? For step-by-step guides on what to cook, simply ask me for a delicious recipe - “Alexa, give me a chicken parmigiana recipe”.

Need some help with conversions? Try asking:
“Alexa, how many cups are in a gallon?
“Alexa, how many tablespoons in a stick of butter?”
“Alexa, convert three hundred degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius”

Ask me about all the things you should know while handling eggs. Try asking “Alexa, how long should I hard boil an egg?” or “Alexa, how long do eggs last in the fridge?”.

Keeping a check on your diet? Try asking “Alexa, how many calories are in a donut?” or “Alexa, how much protein is in an egg?”

And when you’re finished whipping up a delicious meal, use my announcement feature to get the whole house to come and sit at the table! When you’re at home, just say “Alexa, announce dinner is ready” or if you’re out and about, you can grab their attention and make an announcement via the App.

To do this:

  1. Open the Alexa app
  2. Tap on the Communicate icon in the lower-left
  3. Tap on the Announce button at the top, and type your message
  4. Messages typed into the app will be read out in my voice, whereas messages spoken into the app will be played directly, using your voice.
