To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I spent many hours reviewing water proof pads for our king size bed. We have an expensive mattress and I wanted to ensure we were purchasing the correct product. I read all of the 1 and 2 star reviews for a variety of pads hoping to find the perfect pad, and guess what, the perfect pad does not exist. I decided to purchase the SafeRest and was extremely happy that I did. I have no idea where the 1 and 2 star purchasers found the negative about this pad but after washing and drying as instructed tested the pad to ensure that it would at least be minimal leakage. 5 minutes after pouring a cup of water onto the pad, over a large pan, there was no leakage. I removed the excess water, dried the pad a second time and placed it on the mattress with absolute certainty that for, my wife and me, adequate protection was assured. Not one of the negative reviews came close to describing the product I received and I am perplexed to say the least that the product I received could be the same as described in the 1 and 2 star reviews. From the description of the pad, size, fit, no side protection, quiet, no zipper etc the pad was received precisely as described. I replaced my 5 year old pad with this one and believe this one with provide the same service for one-third the price of my original pad. Product is exactly as described in the on line information, description, size, materials and workmanship. Excellent pad for the price.
My wife went into labor a year and a half ago and that labor went very quickly....so quickly that she ended up giving birth on our bed in the presence of EMTs. We then went to the hospital where I stayed overnight with my wife and new baby girl. The next day, once things had clamed down, I went home to clean up before they came home. For those who have witnessed or gone through child birth, you know what a mess I arrived to. For those who haven't, suffice to say there are many different types of fluids and a lot of them. Let's just say I was fully expecting to be purchasing a new mattress. To my amazement, once I'd bagged our sheets and this mattress pad, our mattress was perfectly fine. I bought another one immediately and will continue to use this brand as long as it exists. I challenge anyone to put it through a more rigorous test and I'm positive it can stand up to some sweat or your child's pee in the middle of the night. I could have posted a pic but it's better for everyone if I don't.
Our dog has an incontinence issue and has leaked on our bed before. It didn't take long until the vet recommended medication. During that time we learned that not all mattress protectors are created equal. We tried the Cool Shield first, which ended up leaking very easily. Second we tried the LinenSpa Lucid which was more waterproof but not perfect. It was slightly less breathable. After this one failed we got a new mattress and I read hundreds of reviews before purchasing this one over a year ago. The SafeRest breathes excellently and hasn't leaked. I tested it thoroughly first. I also tried the Beckham which is softer and thinner but a bit less breathable. My only very minor complaint with the SafeRest is that it stains fairly easily. Do be sure to follow instructions for laundering, never use bleach. I'm willing to live with it permanently being slightly dingy even after washing as it works so well. None of the ones i tried were crinkly, but some were hotter to sleep on. If this one goes I'll buy another but spend the extra to get a full zippered encasement. I never found one that didn't have at least some bad reviews, and this one is no exception. If you need severe waterproof protection your only option is usually vinyl. But if you get any brand that breathes and feels good under the sheets be sure to test it in case the coating is defective.
Update: Ordered in 2016 and it is now 2020. We had a leak get through this mattress protector. When I peeled it off I was sad that it had leaked, but happy that 90% of the other things hadn't gotten through. Milk, sweat, etc still wasn't going through. It took a big spill to go through. So after 4 years I'd say its time to replace. Our Beckham Hotel Collection Premium Mattress Encasement that we bought in 2017 is still going strong. We have 2 so that we always have something on the bed and I prefer the Beckham for breathability and protection. However I think I'd still buy this again because it is easier to take on and off, especially considering the price point.
We have bought this mattress cover over and over again. Not because the product failed us but because we like to keep a fresh bed and this is the perfect mattress cover. The water resistance has saved us countless times. This is one of the few mattress covers that doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping on top of a mattress cover. It has two layers to it, one is a plastic like layer and the top one is a towel like layer. It’s great because it protects your bed from any possible liquid spills but doesn’t produce that rustling plastic sound a lot of other water resistant covers do. We have never had a problem with it slipping off of our mattress and it’s easy to clean.
So far so good. My son spilt a full glass of water on this thing and the mattress was dry. Our $150+ protectors leak, and aren’t as nicely made... wish I saw this one first. The soft part is like a Terry cloth. Soaks up quite a bit, like a towel does. Good product! I’ve recommended it to my friends with children. No odour from the plastic side of it. Don’t put these things in the dryer tho. Delicate mode and hang to dry. Or just air dry mode. Sometimes with these covers the rubberized side can wedge my dryer and stall it. We were told the heat isnt good for them too. It dries in the course of a day if there is an accident that gets cleaned up in the morning.
Years ago, when my kids were in twin beds, I used to buy this top of mattress cover from a vendor called OOPS! which appears to be bought out now. Now that my children are now in double beds, I was at a loss of a protector as good. After buying several mattress protectors, none ever compared to my OOPS! ones UNTIL I came across this one. EXACTLY what I was looking for and does the trick. Protects great from spills and pet messes. Worth EVERY cent! Would highly recommend to anyone else. Buy two, just to have one as backup - they are THAT good!
I've only been using it a week or so but I noticed improvement the very first morning. I used to wake up with congestion headaches from my allergies. It hasn't happened since I got the cover. Note, I also got pillows covers (from another brand before I knew about this company). I like that I can put it on by myself. Eventhough it doesn't zip, it covers the top and sides well. I don't have to lift the whole mattress so I imagine I'll wash it more frequently the other type. I don't know or care if its waterproof. I bought it for my dustmite allergy. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Before I bought this bed cover I read a bunch of reviews. I know a few people were complaining about the cover making noises when they laid on the bed and it smelled bad. I didn’t find any of that. Not sure how in the world it would ever be noisy..?? This bed cover has saved our new Douglas foam mattress multiple times! It works!! My elderly dog urinated in her sleep one night and when I stripped the bed sheets then took the cover off, NOTHING seeped through! I’ve washed it multiple times and as long as you dry it on low temp it’s fine. One time I tried drying it more quickly on medium temperature and the waterproof lining gets too hot and will stick together. Then when you try to pull it apart the lining tears. This is the only thing to be aware of. Do not dry this thing on anything higher then low temperature in the dryer.
