Got this as a gift for an aspiring writer/ English teacher. Arrived on time and in new condition as stated. It’s not as large as a 5x7 but it’s bigger than a 4x5. It’s is a thick journal at least 150 pages, leather cover with dragon details. The dragons were not raised up like in the description picture, which is a little disappointing. The detailing is still nice though, even on the side it has crisscrossed leather details, looks nice as well. Overall nice leather journal, and for the price you can’t beat it. You will pay close to 20 for one close to this in stores. Also ha a good length leather rope for keeping shut, or for a placeholder when needed.
As others have said, what you see in the picture of the listing does not match product received. The inconsistencies are strange in the way I'm not sure how they got so close but didn't match the pictured design.
In my case it had the correct dragons, but they are larger with wing tips touching the top of the border and tails touching the bottom border. Also one leg is not connected to the correct dragon making it look like one dragon has a leg with two feet on it, which looks pretty weird.
Not a deal-breaker for a leather book under $10 and still suits my drawing needs. Would have still bought at that price even if seller noted that there may be some variances in the cover, which they certainly should have.
I ordered two of these, one for me and one for my sister. When the two arrived, we noticed the two were actually not the same design. One of them had the design shown in the picture, and the other was less detailed dragon with a different flower design on the back. The concept was the same, but it wasn't the one shown in the picture. For the price, it didn't really matter much to us. It was kind of cool for them to be slightly different anyway, because having the same exact one could have gotten confusing. The quality was really decent for what I paid. It doesn't feel like modern craftsmanship, which I liked. The journal is bound just by thin leather strips, and that gave it a Victorian feel. The pages have little bits of what I believe to be plant material, which I also enjoyed. I would purchase from this brand again, even knowing the design might not be the same. If you are looking for something modern, clean, and you care about getting exactly what you ordered, this product might not be for you. But if you're just looking for a cheap and beautiful journal, I would definitely recommend this product.
I have tested the out with several Fountain Pens: Jinhao 250( stock nib ), Jinhao x450 (stated as medium nib), Pilot Metropolitan ( fine nib), FPR Himalaya ( EF nib ). All pens did write however based on the type of paper I would stick to medium to broader nib sizes. I like the Jinhao x450 #6 nib vs the smaller #5 from the Jinhao 250... I would stay away from the finer and sharper nibs in my opinion... Ghosting/Bleeding and Feathering... A lot will depend on ink choice and nib choice as well as how fast and smooth you write... As well as how picky you are about paper... I can not afford to be that picky... I have no issues writing on one side and using a backing page...
the cover is nice...the pages leave a little to be desired both in quality of paper and they way they're attached. Basically a few 'packets' of paper folded in half but the dragon is cool...so I gave 4 stars on the the cover alone
Need to be aired after receiving as they have a smell when first opened. I bought as gifts and glad I opened before giving. Cordage appears to be cotton and will deteriorate with heavy use. Not bad for the price.
I look at this book and I feel like I've been transported to the middle ages. The feel of the paper is like ancient and awesome. I don't know if it's real leather or not but it definitely feels like it is. The dragons are cool looking. It feels and looks handmade but there were some mistakes with some of the stamping it looked sloppy.
Over all a good notebook but it is not nearly as sturdy as I would have liked and the leather is barely leather and very light compared to the image. I will not buy this again but I do not regret buying it.
The dragons don't look as good as the sample pic but I still like it. The paper looks hand-made with lots of interesting flaws and streaks to add character. Pages are stitched. This does not look like a slick modern book. It looks like a medieval manuscript. That is part of the fun. Other reviewers who are expecting a modern style book are missing the point. My only real complaint is the leather thong that wraps the book is flimsy and looks ready to break. I wish they would have used cord or ribbon instead for longevity.
