When we rolled out the 10 x 8 rug pad we immediately noticed that the edges on the 10' lengths were not cut in a straight line. It was worse on one edge with the cut was 3-4" out. What we tried to do was line the carpet up with the pad on the straightest 10' side and 8' end. We ended up cutting the pad on three edges and had the 4th 8' edge short by 3". The poor cut made it difficult to place the rug pad and get coverage under the carpet on all sides. Not sure how they managed to cut is so poorly. On a positive not, the pad does hold the carpet in place and does add some spongy depth/ feel.
I am definitely glad I bought this one instead of the one I found in a local big box store. The one in the store was the same size, but folded in the package it was only about 2" thick. And it was more money. I took a chance on this one and bought it instead. When I opened the box I was really surprised by how thick it was. This one was about 4" thick when folded in it's packaging. I laid it out on the floor myself, easily unfolding it and smoothing it out. (Sometimes these things stick together when trying to unfold them) I have a 9x12 area rug that I am using this for. The area rug was already down for a couple of weeks so I was used to how it feels to walk on it. Now it is more comfortable. I know these pads are designed to stop the rug from moving, but it also gave it a little bit of cushioning to make walking on the rug softer and more enjoyable. I am definitely happy with this purchase.
I went with this one based on Amazon reviews and I am sad that I did. I have a reasonable heavy carpet 5 x 7. This grip doesn't hold the carpet in place at all. My partner and I have to adjust it every 3 months because it shifts so much. I think Ikea has a better underlay that sticks very well to the floor and carpet is less likely to move around like this one. Also as it ages, the plastic pieces in the pad thread will start shedding. Not impressed by this item at all.
Does it's job fairly well, for now. Packing was intelligent. Bought it to be under a huge rug which will receive a big hardwood bed that must weigh half a ton. It really is non-slip, at least on my laminate flooring. That stretchy no-slip quality of the material makes it a bit hard to place on the floor properly at first because when you pull one end just a part of the surface moves. But that's the point I guess. I used a measuring tape not to measure but to pull straight lines to follow. Once in place the rug sat perfectly on it and didn't budge. But when trimming with scissors it is kinda hard to manage a straight line because of the windowscreen-like shape of the pad, but then again if under a rug or something it won't show! Pleased with the product. Overall 4.5 stars.
I have (or had) many of these throughout my home, ranging from six months to two years. We have dark hardwoods throughout. This week I went to clean under our rug in our kitchen, and I noticed that there was a waffle pattern left on the floor near our stove where we always stand. The pad had pulled the top coat of our floor off, resulting in the pattern of the pad on our floor. When you look in the light, the pattern shows in the shiny v. non-shiny areas from the pulled top coat on the hardwoods. This is the actual floor stain being pulled off. It can't be washed off. After this discovery, I went around our house and removed all the pads. The runner in our hallway has also left a waffle pattern down our hall. We moved the king bed in the master, and the waffle pattern was throughout. On top of this, under the legs and the supports, the pad actually stuck. We had to scrap it off with a knife as best we could. It left a residue that we can't remove, and faint bits of the white pad. We tried all the remedies online to get it off (Dawn, WD-40, etc.). Nothing worked. Maybe these don't leave marks for some people, but it looks like they do for a faint amount including us. So, I would recommend being very caution if you have hardwoods. You are risking your floors.
I wanted to buy it at a local hardware store. But I decided to give this a try. Let me tell you, its one of a good decision I made. Without this my area rug used to slip and slide all over the living room. Once I had this placed underneath the area rug - no more slippage. The area rug stayed in place.
Price and delivery good. Seems to stop rug from slipping. Don't see much difference from other similar products. Did what I wanted. Time will tell if it marks the floor. Easy to cut to size. Left overs can be used in drawers or cupboards of an rv to prevent contents from moving around. No unpleasant odor that I can detect.
I bought the 10ftx2ft underpad, which I cut for in two five ft picees, for two six foot runners.. Both now stay securely in place, but the underpad comes off the floor easily if it is necessary to move it with the runners.
