Rating is for the quality of the edition, not the story itself. Comes with a selection of beautiful watercolour illustrations, and a fold-out map in the style of the very first LOTR editions, which really helps with following the story (he sure loves having tons of place names)

Story wise, it's very much one for the Tolkien enthusiast. If you want to read beyond the trilogy, and enjoyed the appendices in ROTK, either this or The Silmarillion is a good place to start. Note that there's a lot of overlap between this and the version in Unfinished Tales, so if you've read that, this is probably only worth buying if you want the satisfaction of owning the complete collection.

This is a great story; however, I was a little disappointed in the style of the text. I'm not sure if its because the story itself was published some ago. It reflects on an older form of writing fiction or perhaps the publishing firm trying to make a simpler edition. I found, The Hobbit more descriptive and captivating than this book. I will keep it as a reference but it would be nice to find a better edition out there.
