To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I bought this headlamp because it was re-chargeable and had good reviews. It is quite bright it appears to be well-made. The big problem is that the rechargeable batteries stay Brite for about a half an hour and after one hour are quite dim. Outdoor Gear lab’s review showed that the rechargeable batteries are about 75% worn and provide little light after 40 minutes but I thought maybe it was a fluke. Unfortunately it’s true. The rechargeable batteries are anemic. The other thing I dislike about this headlamp is the switch. The switch is complicated to use and is not intuitive. This would be a great headlamp for somebody only using AAA batteries , But then why pay the high price for a rechargeable headlamp? For a little more money you can get a brighter light and much longer lasting batteries in the Petzl ACTIK Core or the Fenix HL60R. These are far superior rechargeables.
Light is otherwise great (luminosity, functions etc) except for the fact that the battery case opens randomly, and on my first night of casual use I lost one of the (irreplaceable, since I am in a remote location) rechargable batteries twice. I had not even noticed that it had opened, lost a battery, and re-closed. Now it is firmly taped shut but this is completely absurd for a newly purchased item.
With the exception of this issue, the light is excellent.
