The Risky Business Bath Mat

I thought that I loved this mat when it arrived...until I showered, went to bed, and the NEXT morning the “rug” was pulled, quite literally, out from under me. I woke up late and not expecting my floor to be an ice rink, ran into the bathroom to get ready for work. Having thought I purchased a bath mat rather than skiing equipment, I was shocked when I slipped on the mat, landed on my back - feet to the sky- and on a slightly wet floor. I have gathered the following from this experience: 1) I am confident that we wouldn’t have the iconic scene with Tom C. in the movie Risky Business if he had this product in his home during the power slide scene. No amount of cool or “prayers” to Zenu could save someone if you hit this thing under the right conditions, 2) This “sled”is the least absorbent excuse for a bath mat in the history of ever. 10 hours later and the top was still soaking wet. I even towel off before stepping out of the shower and so it’s not as though it was an unreasonable or large amount of water; 3) By “slip resistant”, they actually meant “You will be RESISTANT to gravity rather than slipping” in the description.

On a serious note, I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone. It’s actually so bad that it’s dangerous. It couldn’t handle a minimal amount of water on a tile surface. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it ended up in the hallway after I slipped on it- there is ABSOLUTELY NO traction or grip. It’s was comfortable when standing on it but on a very serious note, this is a hazard.

Update from original review: For as much as I loved the quality as per my original review & the fact I purchased 3 for my bathrooms, the rug really isn’t made to be washed in the washer as is stated on their instructions. The 1st wash & hung to dry the rug was ok~some wrinkles which flattened ok but not the smooth texture as before. The 2nd wash really showed the wrinkles much worse so I dried it & really should not have. It made the rug not flat at all. Even if I wash only, the rug isn’t the same after. Bathroom rugs, for me, aren’t rugs to spot clean with a cloth, they need a washer cleaning. 2 I used as long as I could. The memory foam existed no longer, therefore I donated the rugs. The smaller size I kept which sits in my bathroom for another purpose. Please note in buying this rug it’s not meant to be machine washed-even on a hand wash cycle. Based on this I wouldn’t purchase again & don’t recommend.

Genteele Memory Foam Rug exceeded my expectations. I purchased the 17x24 size & loved it so much I then purchased the larger size. It’s SUPER soft & is so comforting to step/stand on. It’s a durable rug with a wonderful thickness. It does a fabulous job absorbing any water I get on it & dries
rather quickly. I’ve never had a rug of such quality. The gray color is beautiful. The bottom is of a fabric that is anti-slip. The rug doesn’t move. It’s solid & stays in place. It’s sewn with great quality as well. Not one flaw. I tried to show the quality in my pictures. I have one for my bath & one at my bathroom sink. Sometimes it’s so soft I don’t want to step off it! :) Great quality at a nice price. Highly recommend!! The rug won’t disappoint.

A bit dangerous

I needed to get a floor tape. My 6 yr old son slipped and fell backwards into the tub and hurt his back, head and neck. He was ok since he's a kid and not so tall, he was able to fall inside the tub no problem... but an older person who's a lot taller could break a neck. If you get a tape it'll be good, without it... not so much.

Cushiony but slippery

After about 2.5months of use the memory foam has held up and is still very comfortable to stand on. However the mat is definitely not slip resistant. After about a month the mat no longer stays in place on the floor. Sometimes even stepping quickly causes it to slide on the floor. Somewhat difficult to clean because the mat conforms to the side of the dryer and no longer lays completely flat after drying.

Edit: After 5 months of owning this mat t is still holding up well comfort wise but the non slip is non existant. It even slides on the floor when my 15lb dog steps on it the wrong way. Definitely would not purchase again.

Does NOT stay in place

It's soft and works well EXCEPT that it doesn't stay in place at all. I bought 2 (of different sizes) about 8 months ago. The color is great and they look great. But from new, they didn't stay in place well at all. I was constantly tripping because it would move with the slightest touch when walking around the bathroom. (but they stayed in place while standing on them) I've now washed them a handful of times and as of yesterday they don't stay in place at all. Even when standing still, you can feel it sliding a bit. I got out of the shower this morning, momentarily forgot they weren't as sticky, and almost fell backwards (but grabbed the shower door in time). I would NOT recommend unfortunately.

Foam falls apart after a year

Loved this rug at first. It was soft, the color amazing, and the size is perfect. We would wash it regularly and then hang dry it as we do with all our other memory foam rugs. However, after less than a year, it came out rather lumpy after a wash. I thought maybe we didn't let it hang dry for long enough so we washed it again. That's when all the foam fell apart inside the thing. It now falls to the bottom of the mat and it is ruined. Can't recommend a rug that falls apart after less than a year.

It's soft and non slip but not very absorbent

This mat is very soft and cushy. My problem is that it doesn't absorb quickly so I feel like when I dry my feet, if I step where I stepped before, my feet are wet again. It's big enough so that after I dry my feet, I step back down on the other side of the mat. Inconvenient and I will hope something bad happens to it so I can have an excuse to buy a new one. I do not recommend this at all.
I have to say it is definitely non-slip. My dog likes to scratch at it and he's not able to move it which seems to frustrate him. :D

I should’ve really paid more attention to the size of this. Pulled off the tags, put it on the floor, and I can’t even stand with both feet on it. Maybe I just stand like a bow-legged hooker, but I don’t know why any adult would want this - unless they are of short stature. Or have the world’s tiniest bathroom.
It’s also not very thick. I have 3 others (that are each at least twice as big), and can’t feel the hard floor under them. Could feel the think of the floor as soon as I stepped on this.
But again, my own bad for NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MEASUREMENTS!

Received this folded in half, then in thirds. So, I have six squares that show up on the mat and so far it doesn't seem the memory foam is going to fill in. The areas where it was folded are flat to the floor, so I am thinking the foam was torn inside. It has only been about 12 hours since receiving, so I am hopeful it will fill in after some time. The mat should have been rolled, not folded when packaged.
