Just got a chance to install the keyboard mount. Generally, I would say that so far it has exceeded my expectations regarding the design, construction, and quality. Based upon the negative reviews I was hesitant about this purchase. When I installed this (under a solid wood desktop), I decided to drill one additional mounting hole in the middle of the front of the undermount track assembly to provide one more point of support. As far as the design is concerned, it just works under my desk, where I can adjust it so that the keyboard glides underneath the track without interference, and I still have enough room to get my legs/knees under it without bumping into it. To me, the swivel feature would benefit from a second point of rotation at the front of the elevation arm, directly below the keyboard stand, to be more functional. I have this installed on a corner desk which provides additional challenges for viewing multiple monitors.
I purchased this model because it had a lot of good reviews, but it's just *alright.* The shelf that holds the keyboard has a "tightening mechanism" that keeps the shelf in place but I find that no matter how tight I make it, any amount of pressure makes it fall down, even just resting my hands on the keyboard causes it to drop an inch or so. The "cushion" where your hands go is quite uncomfortable. I use a tiny magic keyboard so I can't imagine using this with a large keyboard where I would need to move more to access the rest of the keys.
Depending on the tilt, it can range from 2-4 inches away from the bottom of your desk, so if you're like me and have a lower desk, you're not going to be able to tuck an armchair under the desk with this keyboard (though that's my fault and not the keyboard's). Also make sure you MEASURE the bottom of your desk. This one is LONG. I wound up having to disassemble a part of the desk to get it to fit (also my fault and not the keyboard's).
Threaded mounting screws for tilt piece had to be installed first from the top down. This prevented installing the track first, but had to be installed as one piece. Screw threads should have been the other way so the weight of the whole unit wasn't being held by me while up while I crawled under the desk to install. Otherwise, it's a good value. The ball bearing track is nice. I less expensive unit that I purchase was wobbly and junk. This one is acceptable,
I had to make a board to fit under my center desk drawer to install this. Because of this it fits quite low and would be difficult for anyone other than a short person to use unless it is fitting on a desk with no drawer. Would also be difficult to install on any desk with a wide trim at the edge.
I just got a replacement for the first. Both were damaged. I was able to get good pieces between the two, and now that it's together it's great. I wont be getting the desk I wanted for a while, so I slapped something together and this tray really makes it work!
I don't think the problems I found are specific of this specific brand/model support, but is little bit annoying the instability when typing. All considered is usable, much better than the old one I used for years.
