We use these with a 5 gallon bucket, Luggable Loo seat and coconut coir. Works perfectly, no smell and we are both sensitive to odors. Put an inch or so of coir in the bottom of the bag, do your thing and then cover with some more coir. Tested from the mid 30's up to the mid 90's over 6 weeks in a self built campervan. Having the ability to pull over and quickly go or not get out during a rainy/ buggy night completely changed our camping experience. Bag lasts a maximum of 3 days using coir. Like a couple of reviews said, they are lightweight. That's because they are designed to be biodegradable. You take the bucket with you to the trash dumpster and dump it, don't try lifting the bag out of the bucket. After 3 days they will leak as they are beginning to degrade.
These biodegradable potty bags were perfect for my needs. They are easy to tear from the roll, easily opens, and the scent is very pleasant keeping the bad smells away. I did, however, use a powdered gel as well. I placed a tall kitchen bag in the bucket first and snapped the lid over that then I opened the disposable bag and opened over the seat until the first use. After the very first use I twisted the top of the bag around a couple of times and layed it across the seat and lightly closed the lid holding the bag there until the next use. This prevents condensation from building up under the toilet lid. The price was very reasonable, too. Also, the company got in touch with me immediately making certain I was satisfied with their product. Very few business owners do that these days.
I just received a message saying that the product should be used within 12 months of purchase. If I had known this before I purchased them I would not have purchased so many. Not sure what to do now. My son goes camping twice a year and will not be able to use all the bags I bought within a year.
Let me give you a tip. You can buy compostable trash bags at Walmart for much cheaper and in much larger quantities. These things are a waste of your money. however if you just want to know how well they work then I can tell you that they work just fine especially if you're using the green elephant folding toilet.
For the amount of money that I paid for this roll of bags I got 50 compostable trash bags at walmart.com.
This product makes living in a "dry cabin" easier!!! The bags come in a roll, and tear off easily for use. I am not home much, so 1 a week is about all I need. The bags fit well inside a 5 gallon bucket, and the black color disguises the waste (YAY!). I use a specialty toilet seat on top (Reliance Products 9881-03 Luggable Loo Lid), which holds the bag in place. "Poo-pouri" sprayed inside the pail mitigates odors.
When the bucket/bag is approximately one/third full, I lift the seat and tie off the bag. The bag usually has some condensation inside the bucket, but not from leakage.
Overall, I am pleased with this waste solution. Without a doubt Green Elephant bags beat trudging through all kinds of weather (and COLD) to an Alaskan outhouse!
What can I say? It does what it's supposed to do which is to contain your stool & Urine. Some clumping kitty litter inside helps to keep anything from sloshing around. Remove it, tie it up, bury it or dispose of whichever way you want. Its biodegradable.
I ordered these in March 2019 for my composting toilet. We dispose our humanure into a compost pile a bit away from our house. Before I added these bags of humanure to our compost, my compost would break down and get smaller over time. After I added these it would break down slower; not only has it filled the compost up faster without shrinking as it usually does, but the plastic hasn't broken down at all. I see no signs of degradation. I don't know what the time frame for decomposition is but these aren't composing in my compost pile. I read that it can take 3-6 months to compost a compostable bag -- the bags haven't composted and it's been almost 9 months. Now I am worried I will have to sift through my entire 'humanure' compost pile and hand remove all the bags. Disappointed and won't buy again. Totally bummed. I did an internet search and can't see anyone anywhere who has actually tested this product to see if the plastic is still there 3-6-or even 12 months after actually burying or hiding their poop, and that's without a composting pile.
We are very environmentally conscious. We like the idea that these bags are biodegradable. The bags, along with biodegradable toilet paper, simplify our camping trips. Before getting them we had to haul the plastic bags in the bed of the pickup to a dumpster. Not fun or easy to do. Since getting these, we dig a shallow hole and bury the waste, because we know we are not damaging the environment.
I bought these for my little camper. I have to say I was a little worried. They don’t feel strong. But they are!! I went cross country and had to use my portable toilet at a couple of campgrounds. These bags worked great! I also like the fact they are biodegradable! Good quality product.
