We bought this air-conditioner for my 80yo mother who lives in a house almost as old which doesn't have the wiring for a full air-con system. It's been fabulous; very quiet during operation (and doesn't keep cutting in and out and so the sound of it running kind of just becomes ignorable background noise). A bit more techy than she needs (she just needs to turn it on and off and would be confused by options like timers and remotes and such) but it creates a cool, single-room retreat for her during Australia's ever-increasing heat-waves. A little oasis.
But, what stops this unit from being a five-start purchase is that it only allows for venting out of two types of (modern) windows - those that slide up and those that slide sideways. She has older ones that open out and so to flop the sizeable hose out of it it has to be open to a degree that lets all the cool air rush out. It would be great if the suppliers could design and sell (even separately) a window solution for this kind of window. What about some kind of bladder that inflates with the air-con's own exhaust and fills awkward size openings. then when you turn it off it deflates and can be easily removed?
I don't know, that's why I'm not an engineer.
We ended up putting in a vent through the front wall and exhausting it through that which isn't quite as 'temporary' as we'd hoped. It also means it's not as mobile as the manufacturers intend. That was a disappointing moment.
But otherwise... all good. Working well, doing it's job quietly and steadily.
I specifically purchased this item cause of the reviews. I've had it for about 3 weeks now, I stored it in my main bedroom. Room is medium size, just big enough for a California King Bed and a dresser, Average Temp atm for the last few weeks has been about 32 Degrees Celsius, Room Shut tight! no Drafts, But it takes several hours just to get the room temp down 2 Degrees, Still sleeping with a sheet, and still sweating most nights. Unless the Air is directly blowing on my skin. Maybe its the house. A Queenslander, These walls are thin, maybe that's why it's inefficient? But I still have to say it's not worth it! Keep your money Everyone! There's more that I could say, but this is the most important.
